How does it Work?

Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized. Classroom is designed to help teachers create, collect, and grade assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized. Students can keep track of what’s due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom. With the mobile app for iOS, students and teachers can view their classes and communicate with their classmates in real time. Students can open their assignments and work on them right from their iPhone or iPad. Teachers can keep track of who has turned in work and grade the assignment - at school or on the go. Students and teachers receive notifications when they have new content in Classroom, so they are always up to date. There are many benefits of using Classroom: Easy to set up Teachers can add students directly or share a code with their class to join. It takes just minutes to set up. Saves time The simple, paperless assignment workflow allows teachers to create, review, and grade assignments quickly, all in one place. Improves organization Students can see all of their assignments on an assignments page, and all class materials (e.g., documents, photos, and videos) are automatically filed into folders in Google Drive. Enhances communication Classroom allows teachers to send announcements and start class discussions instantly. Students can share resources with each other or provide answers to questions on the stream. Affordable and secure Like the rest of G Suite for Education services, Classroom contains no ads, never uses your content or student data for advertising purposes, and is free. Permissions Notice: Camera: Needed to allow the user to take photos or videos and post them to Classroom. Microphone: Needed to enable audio capture for recording videos to be posted to Classroom. Photos: Needed to allow the user to attach photos or videos to Classroom. Photos or videos posted to Classroom will be stored on Google servers in order to show them in Classroom.

  • Worst online communication I’ve seen.👎👎👎 Sam’s mom (Karen)

I’ve seen the “hate” people are showing to this app for no reason. But from my experience things actually might be true. My son has been using this app for some time now and his grades are actually plummeting. The app is not accessible to kids and makes it harder to learn especially during a pandemic. I’m thoroughly disappointed in the teachers choice to use this app. I also think the app is putting stress on my son’s mental and physical health. He’s become sad and lazy almost never leaving the house and recently he was diagnosed with anxiety. I don’t know what to do because my husband who provides our financial support is never around and he cut half of our funding leaving us with less than 1.5 million dollars every year. My life style can’t be sustained on just this amount of money. So I’m as of now dealing with this financial crisis and my poor son who is becoming depressed due to a online learning site. I am now leading a group of moms like me who oppose this app and its developers. You are hurting our lifestyle, our pride, and most of all our children. So you better watch out because we are coming for you.
  • It’s ok..

    By Pig_person
Ok. This app, is the only thing that my school is relying on to be able to make sure all the students don’t go crazy and forget everything they have learned, but, I digress. This app is to glitchy for a school app. Literally go to any other bad math site and those will be better and less glitchy. Seriously! I couldn’t even do my assignment because it wouldn’t load! And that wasn’t just me! Almost everyone in my class couldn’t do it! My teacher told my principal this and asked if we could use a different app to be able to efficiently do online school. Sadly, we are still using this app. And I have many classes I need to use for google classroom. Music, Gym, Spanish, Math, Language, History, Chemistry, etc. And google classroom isn’t that reliable for this many classes. Whenever I go into the app, it can only load one or two classes. And this is really stressful! I have to close the app multiple times in order to load all classes. Anyways, this app is trash. I would not recommend downloading it. But because all my teachers are old and google classroom is very easy to use, my school still relies on it 😒. But, thanks for reading
  • The same problems but no sign of a solution

    By Lara2304
Using this app used to be easy to use and was great for school work, however recently, it has continuously given me problems. In the past the app worked smoothly, so I cannot understand why it fails to do so currently, when students and teachers need it the most. I turn in work and get notified that my work has been submitted, however when I open the same assignment I was told had been submitted, it says that the assignment has not been turned in. It is ridiculous the amount of times this has happened, which is why I’m writing this review. Had it happened only a few times, I would feel no need to write this. It has happened countless times and makes the online school experience harder than it has to be. Students are already struggling with all the assignments they’ve been assigned and bad technology does not help. I am thankful that this technology does make online work a bit easier for teachers, but what is the point when the students are having trouble? This app is failing to fix any of its problems and the evidence is all in its performance.
  • Terrible app

    By Jabadoodlez
It has potential however it wasn’t executed properly. The format is very cluttered and lacks a dark mode. The app also tends to frequently crash and glitch out. When too many students are in a classroom you can’t even open it without the app crashing or everything glitching out and freezing. On top of that assignment details, the private comment section and the turn in button tend to glitch out and merge together making completing tasks very difficult or impossible. Especially when filling out surveys. Notifications flood my device spamming my email inbox to where I can never receive important emails as they are pushed out and mixed up. The amount of emails I’ve missed from administrators, teachers and my academic coaches is ridiculous due to the confusion. On top of that even teachers have difficult using this program due to its limitations. You can only attach google documents to it and when any other document (such as word or PowerPoint) it refuses to work. Along side file sizing issues. In conclusion it’s very disorganized, overwhelming and poorly functioning. Would not recommend.
  • Mentally deteriorating app

    By Nickolai can not die
One of the most glaring issues with online education is the lack of interpersonal communication. If an online course has any sort of discussion element, it is usually written discussion in the form of an online post. For students looking to become successful outside the classroom in any career that requires verbal communication skills, this could be considered a significant drawback. A big disadvantage to middle and high school students is the lack of one-on-one support. Many at-risk students are behind in reading and math. If they are using online courses to “catch up,” they may find themselves faltering for further explanation or intervention when they don’t grasp a concept. While having a schedule of online courses can be good for practicing time management for the highly motivated and focused student, it can also be the downfall for students who lack these basic skills. If a student struggles with putting away the video games, signing off Facebook and ignoring the cell phone, finding time to do the online classes and all the coursework on his or her own time could be a major challenge.
  • Lagging Problems

    By pen_0
This app is overrated by teachers. Sure it puts 100+ assignments over students heads and causes so much stress over students. But with those assignments comes a lot of lagging with trying to turn things in, videos and attachments not working. And a lot of teachers don’t know how to use the app and end up messing up a bunch of the assignments and causing more stress and anxiety on students. In my experience with a Google Classroom, it’s not a good nor useful app and it only causes pain and suffering. With this pandemic going on, the demand for learning from teachers has increased and made already stressed students more and more anxious because they are going through nobody has ever gone through before and teachers are throwing assignment after assignment and making those students who have perhaps had someone have the virus, and worrying for their life as well as their own yet teachers aren’t backing down with their constant announcements, assignments, tests, Google Meets, Zoom meetings, and so on. With this constant stress on the app, it lags constantly and makes things somewhat not usable.
  • My mind is a mess

    By TheUltimateProcrastinator
The app was fine in the beginning it sent me good reminders, but now all my reminders come a DAY before it’s due and I need reminders once a day or I’m not doing it. And all my reminders come roughly at the same time which gives me a lot of stress because school work is just thrown at my face. I also don’t like the set up of the app. The home page of a class has everything listed and I think the home page should be like a trifold with the titles being “question”, “assignment”, and “post”. So that we know where our assignments are (because some teachers have a chaotic Classwork page) and we know exactly where our questions are and we know where the isles stuff is that no one will read unless they are Emily. Also I think Google Classroom should team up with Canvas and have a canvas portal because for the past few weeks I’ve been checking google classroom and doing my work and completely forgot that I had an engineering class on canvas so now I’m failing. So if the editors will take in my proposals and fix it up then maybe, MAYBE, I’ll give it 2 stars.
  • Go go google classroom

    By Slstohlmann3
This app is horrible! When ever I try to get an assignment it keeps saying, “file not found” like what the heck! It isn’t my internet because it works fine on every other device! It is crap! Sometimes I don’t even get notifications from my teachers on what they posted, so of course! I see it on the last day it is due! This app is slow, like very slow. I always have to keep swiping out of it to get it to load. This app also causes stress after seeing all the work that has been posted! Oh, the links don’t even work! I just want something better than this! 1.6 stars is way too good for this app. This app needs to go, and I am not saying this as a student who is too lazy to do crap. This app causes stress from being too slow and not working, so I usually have to wait 24 HOURS! Like what the heck I have to wait one full day for this app to work, imagine how much work I could get done. I hate also how I have to rely on this app to get work done due to quarantine. I just wish this app could go, or at least come out with a better one. Thank you.
  • Do not recommend

    By will nith
It’s not a good app it is very slow and on iPad iPhone and any mobile devise it is very slow and won’t let you do much on it unless you have a pc or laptop it glitches and is not very helpful when I submit work or mark it as done it sometimes will not mark as done or do anything my teachers do not use it often because it is not very reliable at all and not every thing will send through I do not recommend this app at all and I am very upset that people are still using this app and I fell bad for the people that have to use it every day and hope and pray that it will finally work it should most definitely get taken off the App Store also when my social studies teacher post Links the link do not always work and I can never count on them and my math teacher needs us to print out papers and google classroom will not work and it is very annoying and hard to use and depend on this app is definite not recommend for all students or any students who have to work with the app or students that need to use the app every day or every so often
  • Disappointing

    By imsickofonlineschool
I’ve been using this app for a very long time now for school. Virtually every teacher I’ve had posts our assignments on this app. At first it was great a few years ago but since a few months ago it has gotten very glitchy. Especially now with the stay at home orders and all the online work us students have been getting, it is of utmost importance that this app is performing at its best to help through these rough times. BUT NO. This app, for one, takes FOREVER to open like once I launched it to check my assignments for school, but it took so long to load that I couldn’t see anything and ended missing a virtual class meeting that morning all because of this app’s TERRIBLE performance, not to mention all the glitches when I try turning in my assignments, it just freezes and the assignment ends up being late. I really wish this wasn’t such a horrible app and it’s such a shame that we students have to deal with this, especially now. It used to be a good app but there’s no way anyone could say that now. I’m disappointed to say the least:(
