    Beware of trick/scam

When purchasing jewels in this game beware of the tendency of the game to make the demand from your bank account in a currency not your own, thereby charging you for the currency exchange. I found about 2o or so of these charges and when I investigated this, it turns out that I DID select a jewel purchase in MY currency (Microsoft Store confirmed this) but a demand in GB£ was made from my bank. I raised this with G5E and they denied it was their problem (but they did receive the payment from Microsoft Store, therefor by law, it is their problem) and gave me a runaround for many months. They are still refusing to refund this, even as a "goodwill gesture" even though I can prove that it was as a result of a trick/scam on their part.
Yes, the cost of the jewels IS insanely expensive especially if you are determined to complete a scenario.
WATCH OUT FOR THIS: every few months you will be offered an inducement (free jewels and/or tools) in order to change from Microsoft Store (or other) as your payment transaction intermediary - this means that G5E don't have to pay a transaction commission to the intermediary, so it's great for them, but you lose ANY protection from incorrect or even fraudulent transactions. DO NOT DO THIS! G5E "customer service" (I AM using the term ironically here!) initially will greet you seeking a full explanation of your issue, sometimes asking clarification questions, but this is a chat bot and its ultimate goal is to wear you down and eventually make you give up on your complaint, by closing the ticket and then making you restart from step one all over again, asking the same questions which you went through in detail before. (Sometimes they'll even close the ticket in the middle of this process with the same effect!)
Bottom line: unless "money is no object" for you and your just plain wealthy, this and other G5E games are very addictive, and the cost of buying jewels is considered to be "high" compared to other similar games (you can check this out by looking at the review sites which are NOT sponsored or supported in some way by G5E), so if you are buying jewels too frequently?? You should consider stopping and have a look online from sites which help people with similar issues.

      Sherlock Holmes: Match 3 Adventures

I really like the library theme for the home base of this game. Although I initially enjoyed this game, as I progress it has become nearly impossible to complete a quest in the time allotted. I have played many hidden object games which did not exact the purchase of extra time. I am very good at most hidden object games. However the scenes in this game require far too many items to be enjoyable. Since the object of a game is enjoyment, I am deleting this game from my iPad. It is a shame the makers of Sherlock are so greedy. A person should be able to play without constantly spending money.

      Lovely Distraction

I have been playing this game in the evening for a bit after work to help shed the stresses of the day. I miss being able to go out and walk around town, and exploring the fictional worlds does help some. I cannot wait for this COVID situation to be more under control so we can think about going out to a bookstore or to the local park again. The graphics are good, the music is lovely, and I have been a fan of Sherlock Holmes for a long time. I don’t spend money on in app purchases, and haven’t reached a point where one feels forced to spend money on boosts . . .yet. If I di, I will update this review.

      Fun!

So far, this is my favorite hidden object game of this variety in the App Store. I love Sherlock Holmes, but the addition of the other library books makes this even better. Your energy replenishes quickly enough, and the hidden object scenes are absolutely beautiful. (I don’t play the match 3 games, but it’s nice that the option is there for those who enjoy them.) It would be lovely to be able to unlock wallpapers of the various rooms, but maybe that’s already a feature and I just haven’t discovered it yet? Anyway, it’s a marvelous game that keeps me coming back for more!

      Great fun!

I love hidden object games. This is similar to many others, and I like the literature references & clues. The artwork is beautiful. Story is good, moves along quickly. My only suggestion is this : make the picture BIGGER for those of us with vision issues. G5 games never utilize the whole screen, which is very frustrating for me. It’s difficult to see objects that are so small, I can only play a little while before my eyes hurt. Consider making the entire screen playable.

      Insanely expensive to play

Fun game, lots to do, however, the amount of money it gobbles up is like being at a casino. You to keep buying tools to get through various levels. And if you have bad eyes, forget it. If you want to spend $30 every few days on a game, good luck. As with so many of these games, the demands on purchasing necessities is outrageously expensive. I purchased jewels to get the tools not realizing the amount of jewels it takes to get the tools. Rapidly gobbled up. oBeware. It is a fun game, I really do wish the cost wasn’t so steep. Yes, you can play free, but at a snails pace. You must renew energy, and if you’re having a bad streak, you lose that scene you will get docked a ton of energy just because. I think I’m reading this correct. Correct me if I’m wrong. The -15 in the red? My eyes have been problematic so it may be a bit easier with perfect vision. I like finding the clues, but some days I do the jewel challenge as it’s less strenuous on your eyes. Again, I do still believe the cost is quite significant. So I’d give it a five if not for that. I’ve not had an issue purchasing for other games, but they don’t gobble it up rapidly either.

Game plays very smoothly, but can't complete quests.

Update: Developer contacted me one day after I posted this review, I have received the gems I paid for. The game play is very smooth, stable game, even on an older device. ———————————— Previous review: This isn’t my first rodeo, been playing hidden object games for years. I know how it works, you have to play some scenes over and over to get the thing you need to finish a quest. These games are designed for the house to win (get your money) and I know the limits of playing for free. You don’t get much help from the game, boosters only give you coins or experience and those are few and far between. Boosters for time, energy or helpers have to be purchased with gems. But I need 2 clover to finish a quest. I have been playing for a week without successfully getting one. It is very disheartening. I think the steps to completing a quest should include all the parts you need. And I was running out of gems to buy helper items. So I was really excited that an offer popped up on Jan 8, a Super Deal, 99 gems for $1.99! I paid for it, got a receipt from Apple, saw that the money was taken from my account. But the gems never appeared. I contacted G5 support, opened a ticket, sent them a screenshot of my game, a copy of the receipt, everything they asked for. I haven’t heard from them since Jan 13. It’s been “passed along to the Technical Team.” [Issue resolved]

      Good.

The game looks to be well written just like your typical G5 games. It’s good and entertaining but with everything that G5 makes it has its issues. Energy is a thing, which in my opinion it shouldn’t be, I want to play for hours but it forces you to stop in order for your energy to completely return. Another thing that I noticed was that it said it was a match 3 game when that’s not entirely true, at least in the beginning. It’s a nice touch that they let you choose how to tackle the levels but the whole energy situation is always a thing you have to contend with. Especially when you don’t want to pay real money to continue playing.

Seems to be a riff on other G5 Hidden Picture Games

I have only played the first picture a handful of times but it seems to be similar to any other G5 hidden picture game. But, like Hidden Treasures, there is the choice for playing in Hidden Picture mode, or in Match 3. I have just the first picture open so am making an assumption that you will have the choice in the rest of the pictures as well. I am level 4 and just received the first two awards. One thing, you can not buy compasses ( or what ever they are called in this game) with coins. That will make this one a bit tougher to play without using actual money to buy gems/crystals, which I refuse to do!

Need to have an option to block invitations to other games

It is very annoying to constantly receive invitations to other games when the device’s memory that you are playing on is already full which means you cannot accept the invitations because you cannot download the games you are invited to. Also, it is completely necessary to have the option to instantly delete these impossible to accept game invitations because I just downloaded this game and already had 27 impossible to accept invitations which took an unnecessarily long time to delete and I had never even heard of this game before today.

      Challenging games

Sherlock has twists on familiar books, colorfully illustrating the plots. Each has hidden objects with several levels of difficulty. Although I don't usually buy tools, I found for the most challenging tasks, I could not complete the goal without helpers. Since the game does not run ads every level, I decided to purchase a basic package. Along the way, some tools and energy are provided, so you can play without purchases. It also helps to add friends, who can Gift you an item each day. If you are on Facebook, Like the page, look for the post with players' names, and Invite.

      WHY???

I was at 4 stars until all the Easter Baskets and their "updates" have messed my game up so much I have to turn it on and off several times just to play an hour or two! One time I have a full Easter Basket, the next time I load the game, I have NO Easter Basket. I went 3 or 4 days without a Basket and thought they must have changed how long they were going to keep it in the game and then today, viola, it was back, empty. I played the game, collected the 5 packages for the Mycroft gift and of course it didn't give it to me. I closed the game, came back on and again, NO Easter Basket or gifts. I thought when they "FIXED" glitches it was supposed to get better! Not this time around!

      Sherlock

The graphics and vocabulary used are great. The game is creative and challenging, but it is truly cost prohibitive once you really get into the game. And what is the use of earning gold coins? You can’t buy rubies with them, and you can only earn rubies very, very sparingly. It’s the rubies that you need to use to buy the devices you need to help you along the way. It is for these reasons that I downgraded the gaming experience, am contemplating deleting the game altogether, and have not mentioned it to friends. I need certain assemblers but can’t earn them even though I win the game. I do spend money on this game but come on be fair. Please consider making it plausible to earn assemblers without having to MOSTLY use crystals. UPDATE. I just recently deleted the game even though I enjoyed it. I simply can’t justify spending that much money on a game. Perhaps you might consider making things more reasonable to buy. Best of luck. Update...The bottom line is to make the game more affordable for a wider range of players especially during this long drawn out pandemic.

      Only 2 Stars....

I am an avid gamer and even though I really enjoy the graphics and the storyline, the game is geared towards my wallet rather than true game play. During these very difficult economic and emotionally challenging times (my husband & I have been battling COVID since the week of Christmas and are still quarantined as we still have serious symptoms) the last thing I want or need to be doing when trying to “escape” reality for a bit is not be able to play a game successfully for any reasonable time period for lack of tools/ boosters etc. It would be beneficial if the coins could be used to purchase a larger variety of helpful items rather than REAL MONEY during such difficult economic times for so many around the globe.

      Frustrating

Every time I go to find an object, it’s not there until you find other objects. Majority of the time, can’t accomplish quest because what you need doesn’t show up even after you find all the required objects in the showcase. If you have to spend money to accomplish quests, then this game is not worth the time. Games are suppose to be fun not frustrating. Will play a little longer but most likely will uninstall for no other reason than I don’t enjoy playing games that lead you on. Update: DELETED GAME!!! More frustrating! Never got anywheres. Stuck on assembling collections; no new items to acquire. Never could get needed parts to complete quests no matter how many times I would go to scenes or I I investigated or played 3-match which was more frustrating! Wanted to acquire different collections not the same one over and over! Many people may enjoy spending money to acquire “items” but not me. If you have to spend real money to play a computer game, I’m not interested. I realize many people enjoy this type of gaming; just not me.
