    Beautiful cash grabbing game.

I am an old FFT player. I have clocked 100s of thousands of hours playing that game. I love the updated version as well. When I saw this version I was in love from first sight. I have doled out cash on it too. But it bothered me that you had to buy every day and that one $80 purchase was not enough. I kept thinking that there had to be something I was missing but I am not. I opened a new game on a second device to see if you could play and enjoy the game with out spending real money. You cannot. Rewards are based on how much you spend on the game. Ranks and character draws require too much real cash. I am deeply disappointed. It is beautiful, built for an old grinder like me. But it is a pay to play and not just a little. The expectation is that you pay and pay and pay. I’ll go back to my other hero collector games that don’t require so much cash. It makes me sad though. I loved the story and the feel of the game. Update: Dec 9, 2020 So I have stuck with it and the changes and free stuff have fixed many of the problems I saw at the beginning. You need to be patient and willing to save your Visori for the fun stuff, if you do, you can get a few of the new units and improve your old ones with out spending stacks of cash.

    Actually Free to Play!

With games like this, there’s usually a ceiling you reach as a FTP player, but oh no, not this one. There’s free daily visoire and tons of gil to go around. You can complete missions for visoire real easily, and for every story segment completed, you get a hefty sum of 1,000 visoire! Now, if you constantly blow your visoire on summons instead of highly rare awakening materials or character shards, you could argue that maybe there is a ceiling. However, if you’re smart with your visoire, you can keep pace quite nicely with everyone else. I’ve only dumped around $20-25 into the game, just because I was a little impatient and wanted some mats to awaken my heroes sooner. The devs made the game so you don’t have to spend any cash if you don’t want to, and I love that about this game. It’s all about patience really, just waiting for events to roll around, which they always are. My UR heroes are leveling nicely and I’ve hit a bit of a slow zone due to hero shards needed at higher limit breaking levels, but that’s where the events come in. If you use your visoire resourcefully on shards for the heroes you want to limit break, it’s not that difficult to get them up there. Anyways, AMAZING game, the story is the icing on top. 10/10

    A lesson in resource management

FFBE WOTV is a fantastic, beautifully designed, and engaging free to play game. I am in love with how the progression of your characters requires grit, perseverance, and patience. All units have a certain utility and trained properly with satisfactory gear can become very strong. Everything you need to power up your characters is obtainable through quests, events or trading medals or other resources for them. There is literally no need to spend any money in the game, you are able to gather everything you need slowly. Because of this you have to choose the units you want to focus on first, and then work on the others. By making use of your resources and projecting timeframes to when you will obtain what you need again the process of powering up teaches you valuable skills like delaying instant gratification, developing persistence, grit, and consistency, and the reward of seeing your effort of 30-90 days or more collecting resources and shards to fully awaken your favorite unit. Also, the guild system is great, gives pretty good rewards and the gaming community is really supportive of starting players. This is truly a gem in the series, and I hope that future players will enjoy it as much as I am!

    Beware the summoning system.

Love game, love characters, it is free to play for some with a lot of patience and quite an easy game to get into. Quite recently ( even for the JP users) lots of people are now assuming that the summoning system is a rigged/ conveyer belt system that most P2W players are getting the same pulls as others around our global accounts. Very rarely seen on other gatcha games, assuming JP servers noticed the same thing on there side as well. Makes me highly upset, feel horrible spending money, not happy to know others are disappointed our summons do not matter and knowing GUMI is behind this lazy system and SQUARE is ok with this? I spent hours on WotV just so I can relive my glory days trying to get all the FF characters I can get. Now that I know it will be even harder unless I spend thousands of dollars on a “rigged” system than no thanks, I think I’m done gatcha games after this. And I hope the company will be truthful and say it is this way and fix the mess or if they continue to hide the summoning system...... you are in trouble with the community and fans will be gone from this.

A Cashgrab that’s kinda worth your time.

Story is pretty great actually. The combat is fun and rewarding, which is good considering how much grinding has to be done. The game does a pretty good job of giving you incentive for logging in everyday with free in game currency (Shards). The frequency of URs in the game is pretty awesome and it does a good job of making sure you can dive into their lore by providing story scenario missions for those new Characters. The multiplayer battles are not too bad and it does a good job of kicking off people who want to Lazy Grind. The guild system needs a loooot of rework in my opinion. There are only a few this to do and it doesn’t really incentivize players to be more active during guild battles, so you get a lot of dead weight. Unfortunately, A looooot of the ease of life stuff is locked behind a paywall. Want 2xSpeed in battle? $20! Want to Guarantee you get the newest cool UR summon? $40. Also the game makes a very clear distinction that the Items/LootBoxes/Summons that use Paid shards are infinitely better. And no your Free hoard of 4,000 shards can’t buy the Drk Element Lvl up box of 200 premium shards.

    Not Free 2 Play friendly.

The story and graphic are nice, and the auto battle is a plus to this. However, building your dream team is impossible when every characters require so much resources and their are only a limited FREE resources for people who don’t pay. I wished this game wasn’t a gacha so then I could’ve play for the story, it could’ve been better. They could’ve design it as “full price” like the other Final fantasy. And just add expansion that cost money for the story so we would at least be able to enjoy the story without stopping because I don’t have enough resources to be this stage. The story is good, but it’s downside that it’s imposible to keep up when we don’t have much resources to upgrade our characters and that the stages out pace the characters stats. Could really use a balanced fix on the story stage. I really wished I could’ve continue playing but I couldn’t after knowing I can’t get any good units and stage become unplayable. This is consider a “Pay to Win”, premium game. STAY AWAY if you don’t have good luck with gacha or good experience with this.

I love this game so much!

This is an awesome game. Very addicting. It has a battle system similar to Final Fantasy tactics with the benefit of being a fully interactive online game with a constant stream of new content, new characters, guild, battles and much more. If you never mastered final fantasy tactics on playstation but always wanted to play it, this game makes it easier because it is a touch screen gameplay. The storyline is incredible. I literally stopped playing a lot of my PC games like Skyrim and Stardew Valley when it came out. I grind a lot and I play this game every single day. Lots of side quests and incentives to earn more gameplay. I don’t spend money for this game and I will say it is worth playing. The music is also great! I probably would spend money to make the gameplay easier if I had it. Either way this is an incredible epic game I feel its the best free phone game available hands down including better than mage and minions, merge dragons, and others. The fact that it is a final fantasy cannot be beat!

    Would 5 but

There is alot great with the game but there are a few things that ruin the fun. 1. Is the fact that you get the characters then the limit break for the good ones are so expensive that you have to be a p2p too be competitive with it other wise you stay behind in the meta. Because you get to farm maybe 3-10 a day free and by the time lb 4 comes around you need 160.... in the shops the good units for x5 -x40 shards is like 2-4K vis . You get mid game and fall off because the game caters to p2p to be in the top meta which should not be. 2. Is that if you four star anything events included you should be able to skip ticket them.. 3. Is that you need to fix arena because I get tired of have a combined power of 1200 and getting beat by a team with 200 less power because I wasn’t controlling them.. lastly though is that I love grinding and a game that has alot to offer but the fall off point from f2p to p2p it’s unbalanced . If I was going to pay money I wouldn’t buy 15k vis for thousands for x2 play speed .. and some minor perks. You need to make f2p more enticing because f2 p isn’t another word for casual play. I’m just as competitive as any p2p but the game doesn’t see that please work with me..

    A Bittersweet Success

I am blown away by the production value of this game. The art, models, music, and voice acting are so much better than I could have hoped, and I’m truly impressed. Despite that and how excited I am to see a new Final Fantasy Tactics game, it also causes a great deal of pain. Final Fantasy Tactics was once one of highest praised tactics rpgs on the market. The PSOne original and the Tactics Advance successors were such master classes in game design. Sadly, it feels like the legacy and potential is squandered here. There are console quality graphics, music, cutscenes, and, VO; but they’re stranded on a gacha based mobile game. Instead of reviving the long loved and long ignored king of tactics, we just get this sad tease. I’ll probably still play it, I’m desperate. But instead of utilizing this team’s talent and celebrating the return of FFT, I find myself already rolling my eyes at premium currencies, a bloated roster, and a slog of upgrade materials. Just let me pay you the $60 for the fully fleshed out FFT title we deserve. I feel like a starved dog that’s been thrown scraps. I’ll like the crumbs off the floor, but it’ll never be the same as a nice steak.

    Excessive grinding

Good things first: the game itself is fine (an FFT clone basically), and the gacha is actually quite generous and reasonably f2p friendly, with all the free crystals they give you (unless you want to be seriously PvP competitive of course). The way the gacha works is weird (upgrading characters to the point of them being useful is far more expensive & time consuming than actually getting them, so you need to spend all your crystals on upgrades, rather than the gacha itself), but I can live with that. The UI is not great, but passable. Graphics look a bit wonky on my iPhone 7, but perhaps that’s what I get for not having the newest model. My main problem is that the amount of mindless grinding it wants you to do is far beyond any other game I’ve played, and I’ve played a few. Raid events are the worst, but even beyond that, you, for example, need to play 1000 battles for each character/esper pairing to reach full potential (skip tickets don’t count, and don’t work outside of story missions anyway), grind for mats/gold/etc. Be prepared to leave your phone on & playing itself for many hours daily (at least the game has auto play, to its credit). Weapon upgrade system is complicated far beyond any reason, requires tons of luck, and yes, more grinding. And if that wasn’t enough, material drop rates have recently been further reduced. I don’t have time for this, so back to Langrisser mobile (which is a much better game anyway).

Pretty good except for one thing...

Didn’t play for long but unfortunately will already uninstall. Overall, the game seems very well done. Graphics, music, and gameplay paying homage to old-school FFT, with similar mechanics with added features/materials to drag out character and ability growth. Plenty of quests to stay busy. Very impressed with much of the game. UI and movement on battlefield needs some minor tweaks but does not ruin the game. Voice acting and dialogue is worse than a bad high school Shakespeare play. Don’t download voice acting and just read the dialogue to avoid the pain. Overall, the game itself is very enjoyable and well done. The reason I’ve uninstalled is the gacha/summon system. It’s why I rated this game 3 stars. At first, Free/earned gems will work on a new-user summonx10 banner that offer one guaranteed mega to ultra rare unit or skill to get started. After that’s gone, the chance of ultra rare is 2%. Guaranteed ultra rare is thereafter available with paid gems only, not free gems. 10xsummon for the one guaranteed UR will cost 2000 gems, about $40! This is pretty shameful and a completely gross manifestation of what mobile games are now. With only 2% chance for great units and skills with free gems, it’ll seriously limit you down the road after investing serious time into the game. Or pay ~$40 per 10xsummon but NO mobile game in this planet is worth that much money for every gacha pull.

Over complicated but enjoyable game play

This game peaked my interest because I love FFT. The gameplay for the story is great! However outside of that it’s mediocre at best with an odd focus on automation, and to many in game currencies. During the story you can level and control your team but if you want to join a guild and do a guild battle it’s automated, ranked PVP in the arena? It’s automated. Then the in game currency it starts with visiore and Gil which seems normal. However there is then purchased visiore which is separate and what you purchase with it is cheaper. Then you have arena currency for when you pvp but that’s different from pvp currency from when you casual match, then guild currency, friend currency, raid currency soul currency, vision currency and when you spend visiore to pull characters a currency for each pull that can’t be spent for more pulls just to help you if you get what you want from the pull. The game is only 6months old but already feels dated and the cross over characters which should bring fun to it you can only develop during their event so if you don’t max them out before the event ends they are worthless. With no follow up events several of your favorite characters then sit in your team to weak to be used.

Too much for the same thing.

Nothing is really wrong with this game. I’m a huge fan of FFBE and DFFOO because they’re relatively simple to get used to and most things come easily or with some grinding are obtainable. However, WOTV seems to have a million different things going on at once and can be slightly confusing especially if you’re just starting out. It makes sense to have in depth tutorials but even then the amount of information you’re being forced to remember is a little wild. There’s character abilities, prerequisite levels, prerequisite job levels, character awakenings, ability enhancements, character masteries, vision cards with awakenings, esper cards with awakenings, and then on top of that a weapon system that seems super unreasonable. For example we got a free weapon for early register or something, which is great, but the level on the weapon is so high and the weapon proficiency leveling is EXTREMELY slow. I used Sterne from release for a few months and never saw his weapon proficiency move despite the fact that he had the correct weapon equipped and got plenty of combat experience. It’s just too much. For all of that I would rather play WOTL and grind job points and stat improvement. Significantly simpler. Not a bad game, just requires the amount of time and focus you would dedicate to a console game or pc game.

Features taken out from the Japanese version

I have to give this app a solid 1* due to the fact that the Japanese version of the game has an option to delete your account in-game which allows you to start a new account (reroll) a lot easier. Mobile games nowadays with gacha features are all about rerolling at the start of a game, and it is nice when games make it so that process is easier. But this company has decided to make it harder despite the fact that option was already there. Especially in times where we have a pandemic going on in the world, this filthy greedy company is still all about profits. Edit: I am adding more here because there are convenient bugs that help out the developer. There are a lot of bugs that will allow you to watch a video to summon or refresh NRG, but you only get 3 a day. But if you get low on NRG it will still ask you if you wish to watch a video to refresh it, but not refresh. So you waste your time watching a video that does nothing but help this greedy company get more money. And when it asks if you wish to do your free video summons, it will default to the non-free video, so you could easily accidentally click on the wrong summon thanks to this “bug/glitch”. This game is already as greedy as it can get, but can you at least try not to scam people purposely?
