The most tedious junk on the Net
The game is utterly boring. As other posters have put, the game is a cheat. Oh look, I just need one more move to finish a level. Surprise, surprise. Go on, use a booster, go on, you know you want to. Oh look, this level has taken me about five fails, and now it makes it so easy a blind monkey can pass it (G5 don't want to you give up altogether). The game clearly works on algorithms - the program lets you win only when it wants to. The game is rigged to make you fail levels from move one - it doesn't make an ounce of difference what move you make, if it wants you to win it brings in helpful symbols, and if it wants you to lose, it doesn't. There is zero skill in this crap, zero. Every level is passable - when you fail continually it just showers you with colour bombs from nowhere, to put you out of your misery.
Misery is right though - it is tedious garbage. Here is a quest, go and collect five different lumps of animal shit. Play mindless switching game over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over until you get all five, with no skill. Enjoy your virtual and utterly worthless collection. Rinse and repeat until you're bored shitless - should take about 5 minutes.
Excellent game! But could it be better?
This game is so much fun. The artwork is gorgeous, with an intriguing story that keeps you plain to learn more. I am currently on the wedding event and I cannot play this and fast enough to find out what happens next before time is up. I also love the use of education. The game has words of Latin for language and references to Roman history. I think future events could build on the potential educational aspect of the game. Perhaps a quiz event where characters educate the players and ask questions to see what they learned about history culture and language used in the game and event. It would be excellent for younger players and older players alike.
What happened??
This was my favorite game until a couple days ago. I had just started playing the new China Gate game section for a day or so when my screen went black. Thinking I needed to update something I cleared everything from my computer, looked for an update I hadn’t done yet (I didn’t have one) restarted my computer and the same thing. I haven’t been able to play now for a couple days. I have deleted about a dozen apps I wasn’t using, all my messages, most of my pictures and nearly 1000 old emails. Still doesn’t work with my favorite game. I am on an iPad with 32 gigs of memory.
Well thought through and fun game
Each little character’s blurbs are a bit too long/wordy, but so far that’s the only downside to the game that I’ve encountered. It is a super fun game that can stand on its own apart from copycat games like candy crush/tune blast/etc. The game has a clear theme and it follows the setting and the overall theme of the game to the smallest details. It seems like it is a very thoroughly developed. I do wish you didn’t have to always hold your phone horizontally to play the game though, it gets old and isn’t the most convenient orientation.
Cannot open app after updating...love to play though
First of all, let me tell you how addicted to this game I am. I love how you have so many options of buildings to play and goals to work toward because in other games, you get stuck on a level and you can’t progress at all until you pass the level..but not this game. Highly recommend but I do have one issue: It starts to open and then just goes away. I updated it this morning and started having issues after playing it for maybe 30 minutes. I’ve tried opening it during airplane mode, opening it from the App Store, turning iPad off and back on, and many other things to get it to work but it shows the blue G5 screen, goes to the next screen with all the G5 games advertised where you click on continue to game, then the next screen shows that the game is loading but stops about 3/4 of the way and closes...please help me fix this or tell me what to do because I play this game daily and love this game! Thanks
Ridiculously addictive
This game is great fun and gets progressively more difficult over time so that as your skills increase, your performance must remain consistent. The storyline is very engaging. There are so many different quests that at times the quest bar can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, there’s always something to do. What I love about this game compared to many others is that you don’t run out of energy immediately, and actually get to play. If I were going to change anything, it would be that it really isn’t possible to finish the levels in any kind of timely manner without power ups, and of course these must be purchased. However, I do find the purchase price is quite reasonable compared to other games. Occasionally, repeating a level over and over in order to get one specific random object is annoying. I have to say though, that it’s worth it, because I spend entirely too much time playing this game.
A lot of fun but I need more help
My biggest suggestion on this game is I need a lot more help than I can find. For instance, I still haven’t seen a way I can complete my profile if I don’t remember my original password on here. Also, when I got to one level at the boardarium, there was a very fast tutorial on how to use the archery gun. I didn’t pay enough attention and there is no place I can find that will explain it to me again. I have also not found it to be intuitive. So I haven’t been able to win this round within yet, either. So I might need a lot more help than the average player. I found one place on the Internet where a lot of players were asking questions in a forum but more questions were unanswered than answered, so IDK.
good match-3, but repetitive ads
The graphics are fine for a match-3 game, and unlike some other free games I’ve played, I was able to get through a fair number of levels without spending real money. There are some game mechanics beyond just matching. This game does have a few bad habits, though. The same ads kept coming up without me pressing any buttons to see them, and I really don’t need to see the same ad twenty times. Another pop up informed me that I had found an item which would allow me to visit the bank to buy stuff with real money. I didn’t realize that wasting dollars was such a prize. The game also pestered me for information that was none of its business, like my email address and my birthday. I guess you have to decide how long you’re willing to put up with these annoyances to play a free game. I’ve tried it for a while, and I’ll be moving on.
WAS my favorite matching game
I love this game and have spent many hours playing it but will be going back to other match games I have downloaded. I’ve reached level 88 and now I’m getting pop ups every 2-3 days forcing me to purchase a reagents bundle or the game will start over from the beginning and I will loose all my progress. Excuse me......wrong move developer. I will spend my money where I want to spend it. This isn’t the only match game I’ve downloaded and am much higher in levels on those. I have NEVER been forced to make a purchase just to keep my progress with them. Bad move on your part because this game will no longer be my #1 go to. More like last place , once in a blue moon. Hence the 3 stars. You would have gotten a 5 star review if you hadn’t started forcing me to make purchases just to keep my progression.
How disappointing!
I started playing this game and was finally enjoying a match game. It asked me to review it quickly but I waited because other games would do the same and then get impossible hard. I had hoped that this game wouldn’t, but I was wrong. Now the game makes it almost impossible to win..constantly “hinting “ that I need to use the special helpers..that cost $$. I understand that but some people can’t afford to buy their way through games. Also, (and THIS is what’s really troublesome) if “I” can see when a game is (do I say RIGGED?) set up to keep you from winning then you’ve ruined what could have been fantastic! I was ready to give this game 5 stars because I was loving it. I don’t want to play anymore. I would have thought that the game makers would have wanted glowing reviews..guess not.
Started out good, but...
This is just like so many of G5’s games. Survivors the Quest was the only exception and they seem to have stopped providing updates for that one, as well as several others. In Jewels of Rome once you progress to level 3 in a location it starts getting stupid hard and after that forget about it if you don’t want to spend big bucks for tools or waste your energy allotment and time trying to complete a quest. Plus many of the collections require so many combiners (up to 90+ for non-event collections and 113 for an event collection; those combiners are not giftable). You need a ton of friends who gift daily because it’s impossible to complete tasks in the locations that award the combiners. The graphics earned the 2 stars, which are generally great in G5 games but that is all the praise I can offer. The support staff are put in a truly terrible position because they really can’t do much, but it’s not their fault. They seem to be great people who work for a company that genuinely does not care about anything but money. I get it; it’s a business. I actually don’t mind spending for games I enjoy, but it should be reasonable...and enjoyable. It’s not. Peace out G5.
Needs more options to get items.
I like this game, but I think it’s really hard to advance unless you buy the necessary tools and boosters. A better way to handle this would be to earn low level tools and boosters when you complete a board, such as games like “Secret Society of Hidden Secrets”, or during the special events when you get the bonus items for completing the special board. You could save the really valuable tools and boosters for when you complete a level. I think players would have more enjoyment of the game and you would create more loyal customers. Unfortunately, as it stands now, you can only achieve tools and boosters if you complete a level. That makes it really really difficult to complete boards and is very frustrating. Why can’t you find other ways to give out tools? It would make the game more fun for everyone.
Worst cheating company in gaming ever
If the game wasn’t hard enough (which I enjoy the level of difficulty) the game is a money grab which I played around and got up to level 78 without submitting to the pay pay pay aspect of the game. But it is the CHEATING of the game that put me over the edge. Yes you have to play level after level to get any rewards at times. But when you win tools and try to use them the game puts them in the MOST useless positions and at times puts them in places you can’t even use them. How about rewarding good game play. NOPE no rewards for you just cheat cheat cheat. You set up this move to compliment that move and the game screws you it does not reward good play. It at times, even when you clear a column will have put or let a block fall that isn’t supposed to be there. You know because you just cleared the column. So I am so tired of the cheating that G5 games does that I will tell all my friends to NEVER play theses games. I am done with you G5 and hope you either stop the nonsense or you just fade into oblivion. Signed frustrated an fed up.
Game is going down hill fast (edit 1/28)
I agree with other reviewers. I’m only on level 3-5 and it takes forever to win if you don’t have the tools. Needing 210 assemblers per collection but only being able to win 6ish assemblers per location is lousy. I’m also experiencing constant glitches when I try to use the friends button. Need to include counts for energy restoration (217 current energy/ 250 max energy) and counts for 100% experience (64% but how many experience points do I need to level up) Update 11/26...many gifts are not credited to inventory. Again, you need so many assemblers and this further frustrates my enjoyment of game. I estimate I only get credited with 1/3 of the gifts. Many glitches in game that don’t seem to get fixed. Every time I need to add to this review the rating drops a star. I started with a 5 star review in October and now I’m down to a 2 star rating. Update 1/28....I completed all the available quests over two weeks ago and no new quests have appeared since. Game is meaningless without quests to purse! I agree with other reviewers who talk about the game being heavily manipulated (I refer to them as f-you levels). Customer service is a waste of time, all they do is ask for more info and never fixed a single issue. I’ve gone from this being my fave game to wondering why bother.
I’m addicted!
*** I've had to downgrade my stars because as of today (1/3/20) the game will not load on my iPhone w iOS 13.2.3. It worked fine yesterday & I was in same iOS. It gets to the loading screen (showing the woman who guides thru the games & a man in a blue cape pointing out to the city below them) & then quits back to my iPhone home page showing the app. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP! I play this game several times a day & LOVE it!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I play this game EVERY DAY & several times a day. There are SO many different places you can “explore” (play different layouts) that it never gets morning! Plus as you progress, you gather statues that award you everything from in-game tools to help clear the boards to energy (and not just a few ... a lot of the times around 100pts), to collector pieces that give you more rewards when assembled. If you like connect 3 games, you should love this one!
