Video Manual: How to Use the Flipflop Solitaire App

How does it Work?

From the creator of Sage Solitaire, comes a new Solitaire variant that breaks all the rules!

100% of deals are solvable!

Like its footwear namesake — Flipflop Solitaire is unrestrictive, creating a new game for fans of spider, klondike and other traditional Solitaires.

In Flipflop you can stack down, up, or even both ways on a single stack!

Need to stack an 8 on a 7, or a club on a spade? No problem!

- but -

Be careful, you can only move a stack of a single suit!

It's fun and freeing, but still challenging and captivating.

It's Flipflops for your brain.

- Unlockable backgrounds, alternate card and card back color schemes

- Natural ambient binaural background audio

- A strong sense of relaxation

------A WORD FROM THE DEVELOPER

Flipflop Solitaire is sort of a sequel to Sage Solitaire in the sense that it's my second crack at the design problem of making a Solitaire game that feels like it was designed for your phone and not for a table.

To be honest this is how I wish everyone approached sequels. Usually a sequel takes the solution to a problem and duplicates it. This is why our expectations of game sequels are often more-of-the-same-but-better. I'd rather see more sequels that brought a renewed level of surprise and novelty, and I'm hoping that's what you find in Flipflop Solitaire.

While Sage was all about trying to capture the feeling of a tight, easy to play, tough to win, zen solitaire game, Flipflop is about knots.

In a typical Solitaire game, like Klondike, you're taking a knot of cards and untying it into sequences. Then you reverse those sequences into clean ordered stacks.

In Flipflop you take your knot of cards and tie it into other, hopefully better knots. Then you untie those knots into the final ordered stacks. Having so much control over the way your intermediary knots are constructed led to a lot more depth than I expected.

I hope you enjoy this game as much as I've enjoyed discovering it.

    Games are not random!

Somewhere the developer says that almost all of the games are winnable. I have played this game a TON and found about six that I can’t beat so far, that includes four and five suit. It’s not easy, but that’s why it’s fun. I just start over and try a different route. Levels are tough! They have been thoughtfully created to challenge! Imagine what it takes to create things. If you have created anything to sell or are a small business owner, you would understand 3$ for a great game and ads placed where they are. Creators love to create but we have to eat...creating anything is not charity work. It’s a job. 3$ is a tip for a job well done on something you enjoy while waiting at the DMV or whatever. Awesome game! I’d buy it again! ☺️

    You’re still a 5 Star Rating BUT...

I absolutely love your version of Solitaire on the single suit and ex-single suit (even the two suit) versions I think it’s brilliant!! BUT...I start to dislike the 3,4 & 5 Suit Modes because it becomes increasingly un win-able. I promise I’m not being bratty about never winning; my hope is only to fall more in love with those playing modes by wondering/requesting if you can enable difficulty modes (just an example) that enable card recycling back into the deck so that our chances of succeeding the 4 & 5 Suit levels increase!!?! Please? I’ll pay extra for this feature too. I like playing games that truly allow me an opportunity to “win” because it just feels sooo GOOD to win 😉 Thanks Dev! Love your game!

Vertical orientation only? That’s new on iPad!

I love FlipFlop! Have been playing it almost daily for years. Always fun. With this latest os update the game only “orients” in a vertical position on the iPad! That is how it’s always been on the iPhone but with the iPad, the game would switch to horizontal if the iPad was horizontal. And, no, I do not have the orientation on the iPad “locked” to vertical. So, it is the game’s orientation that seems “locked” to vertical on the iPad now. I have powered off the iPad completely and powered it back on. But nothing changed. Is there hope for it returning to an either vertical or horizontal orientation soon? Could not find a way to contact support without going into Twitter. Thanks.

Love love Flip Flop Solitare with One Catch

I really enjoy Flip Flop Solitaire. I play solitaire frequently to help deal with stress. I find that I like Flip Flop Solitaire more than traditional solitaire because it is a bit more like a puzzle. I find regular solitaire very rote. The one downside (which may or may not be a downside) is that since Flip Flop Solitaire is based off of traditional Solitaire, it is very difficult to switch back. I find myself trying to do moves that can be done in Flip Flop Solitaire and I have to think much harder about traditional solitaire than I did before. So, not really a complaint. It is just interesting. It may even be good for the brain to try switching back and forth.

    Countless hours of fun!

Such a unique and delightful twist on a classic game! I’ve played hundreds of times and can confidently say I’ve nearly mastered 5-suit, and every step of the way was thoroughly enjoyable. The key is in identifying common patterns and striking a balance between high/low risk strategies. There’s definitely a learning curve to it, so don’t get discouraged and just enjoy the process! Great concept, aesthetically pleasing + satisfying execution, neat customizable options, variable gameplay modes, all around A+! I was happy to pay a few bucks because 1) it provided many hours of entertainment, and 2) I enjoy supporting independent content creators wherever I can. You go, Zach Gage!

    love it!

Love this app, especially since you can personally tweet Zach Gage and he will tweet you back (or at least for me) I had a question about the game, it was a glitch bc it said the ad removal was $00.2 cents or something like that and I was confused but he said it was a glitch and it was going to be resolved soon! Anyways other than that I love the standard version and the one suit! Very nice set up and I like the removal of the clock option! The only bad thing is the ads, but just put your phone on airplane mode and your good! I have had this app for a while and am looking forward to more of Zach Gage’s apps!! 💗💗💗

    Excellent

A brilliant Zach Gage title with loads of strategy. Infinitely and compulsively playable. Download and then give this man your $3. I know, it’s a lot to ask! ;) A couple of thoughts: -somehow drains battery rapidly on this particular 6+! -in Sage Solitaire, you could “earn” trashes. It would be wonderfully helpful to somehow “earn” a slot in which you could put that ONE card that seems to be ruining your chances of progression. Perhaps you could put it next to where the two “random” cards appear at the beginning. Perhaps there would be a score penalty for each turn that the card is left unused in this slot. Just an idea!

    Great free-to-play model

Many “free-to-play” games are have ads than game play time. Not so for Flipflop. After 11 games (at around 5 minutes per game, so about an hour), I’ve only seen three ads. Plus, while the premium mode unlocks more game modes, watching four ads (so I’m 3/4 of the way there) unlocks a deal of one of the additional game modes, so you can try before you buy. On top of all of that, it’s a great version of Solitaire that’s a lot of fun to play. The button that shows all the possible movies is really convenient and makes the game more enjoyable.

    Really creative but sometimes buggy…

I have completely stopped playing regular solitaire, because this game has completely taken over my life. I'll go literal HOURS promising myself "Oh, just one more," or "I'll just play until I get to a nice round number of games." That said, it's a little annoying that if you restart a deal but don't play immediately, the game disappears and turns into a loss. Also, sometimes the deal freezes, and if you try to play through, sometimes it'll think you're pressing undo. But that resolves more or less if you quit and come back. It's mainly the first thing that bothers me, and that's just because I'm super-competitivewith myself 😂 It certainly hasn't stopped me playing!

    Great variation to solitaire

Nothing more zen then playing solitaire! This game updates the classic with some new rules which offer a greater range in difficulty level, depending on number of suits used. It has quickly become my evening ritual to play. My only feedback to the developer is, while I don’t mind the occasional advertisement, I wish they had a mute button like other games that rely on ads. Nothing more annoying then playing the game while listening to a podcast, then needing to manually pause the both the ad and the podcast at the same time.

Fun game but ads are terrible

After a few trial plays, I really enjoy this game. It has good replay value. It’s not very complicated, and I usually play about 20-30 minutes a day. The games little counter says I’ve played about 2,000 times. But $3 is a little steep with $1 being the norm for these type games. So I’ve just been suffering through the ads...until now. I have my phone silenced 99% of the time. Now if I play in bed even without an audiobook or music going the ads blare sound and (in typical ad fashion) they’re loud and obnoxious. To really twist the knife it used to be an ad after every five consecutive plays. Now that number has gotten shorter to every two or three plays. I understand the creators wanting to make money, that pays their bills. But I won’t play if the advertising comes after every two minute game session. And I will never pay more than $1 for a card game app. So either lighten up on the ads and make less but still steady amount of ad revenue, or lose it all together.

    Great, with some bugs

This isn’t a good game to play before playing normal solitaire. It’ll mess you up. However, it’s also super fun. The undo error seems to have been fixed, thankfully. The ads integration is great too. I was happy to watch ads for now to earn free plays of the harder modes until I could buy the full game. However, something that messed up my win rate on 2-suit: if you tap the top (with the title) and haven’t purchased the full game, it’ll take you to the purchase page, and if you cancel, it takes you out of your round and counts as a loss. Was not amused upon encountering that. Also, if the game crashes while you’re playing a round, it counts as a loss and will also mess up your win record, ruining my 1-suit record. Another thing to address: it should ask for confirmation if you click new game while playing a round.

    Pretty good

I like this game but I do have a few complaints. I do realize how great it is to get this game for free but the fact that if I’m not connected to WiFi I can’t play because ads can’t play is pretty annoying. I like to ply this game on the bus and sometimes I can’t play for days because I forget to connect to internet and watch the ad. Also sometimes there’s random bugs and you can’t move cards that should be movable and you end up using more turns or not being able to play right. I also don’t think you should get deducted for using the undo button but that’s just a minor thing. Overall it’s an enjoyable game and I love the way it plays. That’s why these small things are so disappointing.

Would be a lot of fun but...

This game looks like fun and the concept is good. I made it most of the way through the tutorial game, and I wanted to keep going. However, even within the tutorial the game had serious bugs. At first the cards moved fine, then they started to jerk a little. Then I quit when they began to jerk A LOT! They were bouncing all over the place like rubber balls and they wouldn't stop. The bouncing was annoying and distracting even in small amounts, but the game is unplayable when the glitch gets bad and the cards are bouncing literally all over the screen. Please fix as it would be a fun game otherwise. I am using an iPad 3rd Gen with the very latest version of iOS 9. Thanks,
