Typeshift is an iPhone and Android Games App, made by Zach Gage. Today, it has gone through many interations by the developers - Zach Gage, with the latest current version being 1.2.5 which was officially released on 2021-01-22. As a testament to the app's popularity or lack thereof, it has gathered a total of 455 Reviews on the Apple App Store alone, with an average user rating of 4.4 out of a possible 5 stars.
Anagrams meets Word Search, with a sprinkle of Crosswords.
Typeshift is the modern anagram puzzle; re-imagined from the ground up, combining wordplay, modern game design, and a mobile-first approach.
In most anagram games, you search for new combinations within a single word, but in Typeshift, you search within three to five words stacked & scrambled up together.
Shift columns of letters up and down as you try to spell words in the center row. Play continues until you have used all letters in a puzzle at least once.
Special Clue Puzzles combine Crosswords with Anagrams as you match clever clues provided by Typeshift's various puzzle authors.

------A WORD FROM THE DEVELOPER
Typeshift continues my quest to re-imagine classic newspaper games in the digital era.
Where SpellTower tackled word search and Really Bad Chess handled chess puzzles, Typeshift re-examines Anagrams and Crosswords.
Typeshift has been a joy to develop, and I hope you have as much fun playing it as I had making it.
As always, thanks so much for your support!

Excellent word game with lots of content
Sliding letters to form words is much more clever than it sounds, and the provided puzzles vary between pleasingly light games, solvable tricky puzzles requiring thought, and bogglingly hard obscure sets. My favorite are the clue puzzles, which feel like a cross between crossword puzzles and anagram word puzzles. There are lots of solid puzzles included plus many more packs you can buy, so it does a good job at serving both casual players who want something cheap and obsessed fans who want lots of content. There are also daily puzzles that escalate in difficulty over the week.
Ten stars!
Brilliant! This game is simple but challenging. But most of all it’s ELEGANT. There are lots of word unscrambling or jumble puzzles that are very good but this is head and shoulders above the rest. From it’s concept through to its presentation this game is thoughtful, creative, beautiful and a joy to play. Even the tumbling way that the letters are manipulated draws you into the play. If I could I would give it ten stars. The only hitch is that if you miss the free daily puzzle there’s no going back to past games.
“Purchasing any pack removes ads”
Oh wow. I tried playing this game but there were so many ads and I couldn’t find a way to pay to remove them. Today the game was in an App Store story about indiegames and I decided to read the whole developer notes, to see if things had changed. To mu surprise, I realized any 99c purchase would have removed the ads. Happy to pay for this game, and get some bonus puzzles, too.
Free trial game
The developer definitely was a bit greedy. The game is set up as a way to get the player to buy IAP to unlock more levels as more than 95% of the game is locked behind Payable “level packs” it would have been so much better for this game to cost, let’s say, $4 with more levels unlocked to the player. It seems like a cash grab and is kinda sad because this developer could come to mind as a quality developer if they weren’t so obviously trying to get the player to buy into the game once it’s installed and not before.
Great, but an offensive word
I have loved playing this game for several years now. It’s part of my morning routine. Today, however, I was shocked to find that the first word in today’s daily puzzle (Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020) that I could solve was the offense term “darkies,” one used to refer to people of color, especially Black persons. Please be more careful to not use offensive terms in your puzzles. This one instance wont’t make me stop playing at this point — I just wanted to point it out. Thank you.
Unique and a lot of fun but I can't restore my purchase
I love this game! It's unique and a lot of fun. I also think it's awesome that you get five clues for watching a short video instead of just one, like most games. I just have a problem I need help with and a couple changes I would like. I love the clue puzzles and purchased the nut package. I wanted more but I would have to buy them separately for $1.99 each. I've tried three times to restore my purchases and each time it tells me that they have been restored, but they haven't. Besides that, I wish you had another clue package for purchase. I know you have some free ones, but they are too hard and I can't solve them. I would love some regular puzzles with less letters. I really love your game and want to keep playing! Thank you!
Great game, a few flaws
We’ve been playing this game obsessively in my house. Great controls, challenging puzzles. A few things need fixing: 1.) it drives me nuts that the game ends before I can find all the words. If “sparkles” is the core word, and on my way to the s there’s a d and I accidentally spell “sparkled” first, and that’s the last unused letter, too bad. This really needs to be addressed. 2.) We’re running out of packs to buy. Please make more.
Only one problem
Needs on-screen word definitions. There's plenty of room on the screen for that, and I hate switching over to Safari to do a Google search every time I build a weird word I've never heard before. EDIT: Turns out you can get definitions after the fact on the winning screen. Better than Googling, but still slightly clunky.
Annoying ads
I’ve been enjoying the game, but recently these intrusive, annoying ads that promise a $1000 gift card are diffusing some of the enjoyment. First of all, I do not seem to be able to see the definitions anymore. If I try, one of these ads appears, and the only option is "OK". There’s no way back to the definition page. Furthermore, the ad seems to promise $1000 gift card for answering a few questions or picking the right box (hint: you always get it right on the third try). If you read a little further, the "too good to be true" reveals itself as a commitment to buy...that’s as far as I got before I got disgusted by the deception. It wouldn’t be so bad if you could close the ad, but I haven’t found a way to do so.
Annoying Loud Ads
Do you enjoy having your ipad suddenly blare ads? No, neither do I. Enjoyed the games for several days. Then I realized a few things: I could resolve puzzles by finding words that weren’t the core words, some words that earned credit weren’t words, not even the in-app dictionary, and some words which I unscrambled did not earn credit, despite being actual correctly spelled words. The app does count words that have been archaic since the 12 century (doubtful most of us or the app developers know those words), spellings and words that are rare, lesser known variants of words, technical words, and words specific to certain specialized disciplines and knowledge areas. I just got bored and would simply roll around the letters until the game declared I’d made a word. Basically, this game is just lazy. I don’t understand how apps get the app store spotlight and meet the developers. Do tell, Apple. Do developers get to pay for that placement?
Fun, poor interface
This is a very fun and addictive game - my favorites are the clue puzzles (wish there were more), and I am playing through them for I think the third time. My main complaint is that the UI could be much better. The "buttons" the bottom of the screen are very hard to use in"Gesture based" iPhones without a home button and voice control is not a viable alternative as voice control is not compatible with this app. Unfortunately, this also means that the last clue can be difficult to select in puzzles with many clues.
Fun & challenging, when it fits on the screen
I was enjoying this game for a few weeks until the puzzles starting blasting out past the sides of my screen, rendering them useless. There was an update today saying it was adding support for XS Max, which it had been working fine on until a few days ago, but puzzles still are off the screen. If things go back to normal I may adjust this review, but for now it gets an "it was great, until…"
Typeshift
I really enjoyed playing the beginning levels. They were challenging and fun, but then I got to level five and things got twisted. One clue referred to an artist named Andres. I did a little research and found out that his full name was Serrano Andres and he was famous for using his own urine in his paintings. I was disgusted by this vile clue, but I decided to read some of the comments and when I saw that one of the words used was “darkie” when I as a person of color find totally negative and offensive. There is a historical context that is either unknown to the developer or dismissed in an effort to get laughs. That’s a sad motivation in light of the efforts of organizations to focus this country on justice and equality. At any rate ‘peace out’.
Good but downsides destroy game play
I’ve been playing this since it came out. I’ve bought all the word packs. Challenging. One of the few games that keeps me playing well after I intended to stop. But, the full page, timed ads for gambling cross a line. I’m not playing for free. I deserve an ad-free game experience. The gambling ads are deceptive and designed to draw people in to gambling. The odds have got to be terrible but stock photo people winning $2,000 to $52,000 are lies. How much money will you lose? I object to the ads when I pay for typeshift puzzles. I object to the slimy gambling ads. Can’t give this a higher rating than 2.
