Still the best iOS game EVER!!
Update 4.4.1 Back on track!! Thanks! Update 4.4 This latest update has a few glaring graphical glitches. On the iPhone X, everything is stretched a bit vertically and the chosen letter tiles at the top overlap with very few in place. On the iPad the top letter tiles overlap the letter counts. Please fix. Update 2.0 Excellent update. LP is finally consistent with push notifications etc. Lots of other nice details added as well. Reinstall the app if you are having server issues. Cleared up all issues for me. Thank You!! Update!! Thanks so much for working to perfect my favorite iOS game!! This is a beautiful game with a wonderful concept, but the Game Center integration is killing the experience. I have always avoided game center up until now. This awesome game by a wonderful author made me fire it up and try it without question. Unfortunately, the game constantly hangs, fails to send moves etc. Annoying as it is in it's current state, I would normally not even review it or give 1 star. Although it truly is a great game. I hope that these issues can be fixed. I actually have it on my first screen. I have never done that for any game. Please fix it! Thanks for all of your hard work!
The greatest game ever
I love this game, and played it all the time with my wife while we were both at work. She has since determined I’m too difficult an opponent and lost interest in playing against me, so the (presumably recent) addition of bot opponents has given the game infinite replay value, even among the antisocial types like me who would rather not play at all than be forced to play against random human opponents. Letterpress was always great, but the bot opponents now move it firmly into the realm of “my favorite mobile game of all time”. Keep being awesome, Letterpress (and maybe continue to introduce more bot archetypes over time)!
Fun game, but doesn't update
I've enjoyed this for a while. It's very different from other word games, and requires a new strategy. My one problem is that it doesn't update correctly. I get a notification (from the app) that my opponent has moved and it's now my move, but when I open the app, it still shows the game before my opponent's move. I have for close the app completely and reopen to get it to show properly. Mildly annoying. Update: the problem has (mostly) been resolved. Excellent customer support!
Love this game!
I’m a word person and most word games make me roll my eyes. But this one is challenging and fun. I paid a dollar I think it was for the full version because the free version limited me to 3 simultaneous games at a time. Now there are times where I’ve got 13 games going at once. Some players only take their turn every few days, while others are near instant so I always have a challenge available no matter when I pick up my phone.
Tricky at First
It took me awhile to get my mind around the strategy of this game, and I almost deleted it off my phone several times. But now that I understand it, I really enjoy it. One suggested improvement: a next game button. When you finish your move in one active game, it would be nice if it gave you the option to go to the next active game, instead of having to return to the menu every time.
Have been playing it for years and love it!
My mom and I discovered this word game on a trip and played it back-and-forth many times. We live about 60 miles from each other, and have been playing it back and forth for about four or five years. If I don’t take my turn in five days or so, mom will actually email me and remind me to please take my turn. That’s how much she looks forward to it.
Love the game, but
It is so slow recently! Sometimes I hold my phone for 1-2 minutes waiting for a word to play. My only other complaint is that there are so many “cheating” apps out there. Totally out of the hands of these developers, but it makes the game less fun and I don’t see why play if you’re using another source for words.
Sure isn’t scrabble but...
I got this game after Hasbro allowed Scrabble Go to become an abortion and an insult to the universe and adults everywhere. This is definitely not scrabble but still fun to play with friends. However, I wish their game rules were more explicit about how this game is scored. After 3 weeks of play we still haven’t figured out how the program scores each play. Also, there is something about defending squares that makes no sense either. If the publishers are listening please explain this stuff clearly. Also, consider making different letters have different scores like scrabble does and offering games that go to higher totals like 🥺50 and 75. Those would add an element of strategy that is missing.
Thanks a lot!
Just received an answer to my complaint (see below). You are correct that app ads do not appear when you are playing the bot, but I am still getting a popup after every online turn. If this is not supposed to happen, please tell me how to fix it. Thanks. The latest update brings me to a possible app download after every turn. So annoying! At least Spider, and other games only do that after you have won. Please consider removing this annoying "feature." I am guessing there is a pay version that does not do that, but that's kind of a mean turn after providing a very nice free version for so long. My four rating will be downgraded to two stars if this is not changed.
What happened to spanish?
I love playing this game with my spanish speaking relatives but it seems that the spanish selection feature was taken out. Why?!? It works amazing! To this day i can STILL play in spanish with those who added it to the app when you guys said yall released it for testing i think, but now anyone who is new to this game and downloads has NO WAY of accessing the spanish language version of this app. Truly frustrating and dissappointing. When i email the developers, they say they have no idea how i even have access to such a function even though i send screenshots of the game taking action in spanish 🤷🏻♂️
Handicap for Second Player would make this 5-Stars
A great game that would be 5-stars if some kind of handicap was implemented for the player playing second. Right now the first player gets an overwhelming and often insurmountable head start. Some possible ways to even the odds: 1. Limit the length of the first played word 2. Limit the number of blockable tiles of the first played word. 3. Lower threshold for victory for second player and increase for first player. Maybe 11-14 is enough for second player to win but first player needs 14-11 to win. None of these would take away from the general enjoyment of the game and would make for interesting decisions at the beginning and during the game. Even without this though, LetterPress is a great game that I’ve played for many months now and continue to enjoy. A great combination of vocabulary and strategy in a very elegant app.
Fun but dictionary limited
So many possible words are not accepted. Frustrating. Clearly not controlled by fluent English speakers. This could be fixed, and with all the complaints about this, it is surprising they haven’t tried to improve. In fact, when I complained that they did not accept so many, many words, they were exceedingly rude, and emailed me, calling me a racist because I questioned their familiarity with English words which I found in many online dictionaries.
Not just another word game
This is a genuine original, not merely another lookalike. Real creative thought went into the mechanics and design of this game - very impressive. So far I’ve played only against the bots. Bot 1 is pretty dumb, but Bot 2 requires thought, Bot 3 is hard for me to beat, and Bot 4 is probably unbeatable. I’ve had one game against a friend, but the bots are more challenging. One star off for the horribly intrusive ads, which sometimes can be dismissed only with difficulty, and the rather high price of getting rid of them completely, which is $5. I like to think I’m pretty good at word games. Of course I may be deluding myself, but I suspect that bot-based play will be too difficult for most people. Excellent app overall. I’m tempted to check out the creators’ other efforts.
Ads are horrible... HORRIBLE!
The game itself is entertaining but after virtually every turn you must endure an ad. Recently, there is a 2 to 3 second lapse after you take your turn where the screen freezes and you can’t do anything until the ad plays. A few times I’ve unknowingly tapped the x to exit during this lapse and it automatically whisks me off to the App Store. Annoying, to say the least. I contacted their tech support who claimed they’ve made no changes to the ad format. Not sure I believe that. I feel this is a money making ploy, and I’ll be honest - I hate it. UPDATE: Today, May 14, I encountered a 30-second ad after one of my turns. It was a FRANKENSTEIN RISING HOUSE OF FUN SLOTS ad. Is this what’s coming now, 30-second ads? And of course there’s no way to click out of it, so we must endure it. Horrible. UPDATE: And I got it again 10 minutes later. UPDATE: you keep claiming the ad setup hasn’t changed but I beg to differ. Instead of continually claiming that, maybe more importance and attention should be placed on what players are saying. The ad placement and/or functionality HAS changed, regardless of claims to the contrary. Ads now have a timer on 5 second them, and occasionally longer than 5. They didn’t have a timer in them until recently. The fact that you don’t understand what I mean escapes me because I tried to detail exactly what I’m experiencing. UPDATE: I keep getting this scripted “not sure what you are talking about” response from the developer.
