Look up the rules and strategies on the Internet

Great game - moves fast, and you can set the level of difficulty if you find that you are winning all of the time. Reversi (or Othello) is a centuries-old game and can take years to master. You can look up the rules and some basic strategies (like corner play) on-line -try Wikipedia - or pick up a book on it. As others have pointed out, the computer does not cheat, it is simply following the rules when it takes several turns in a row. Read the rules, you'll understand! This game can be deliciously Addicting, especially when you find the point on the difficulty continuum where you win about 50% of the time!

Very polished version of a classic game

I've bought a few games from Optime. This is another example of good design - the interface, AI, graphics, music and sound are superb. I got the free version and upgraded when I knew it was going to be a go-to game for the next few months.

    Great game!

Haven't had any problems with it. The computer doesn't cheat - learn the rules! The computer takes multiple turns only when you don't have a move. I can beat the computer most games at the easiest level.

An old classic but still addictive

After you move beyond the early levels, it's like playing a pro. When you do win you get the feeling that it's just a matter of time before you lose. Tons of fun .

    Computer tough to beat

Started with difficulty at half way and found games very competitive. If I made a mistake I lost. Learning how to play and beat computer Just moved difficulty up to 75%. Fun!

    Reversi aka Othello

I've loved this game for years. Knowing how to play doesn't make it easier. It's all about strategy. I often play it to relax. The concentration gets your mind off everything else.

    Absorbing

One of those games where you put it down, think you're finished, and the next thing you know you're playing again.

    Easy

Its a small challenge for me. I found the other games like "move it" (via the link on Reversi) much more of a challenge. Over all the games are great distractions from doing my work!

    Good so far

Great software. What I like most is the slide bar to increase difficulty. You eventually learn how to beat the program, increasing the level of difficulty maintains the challenge!

    Great gameplay, AI is OK

Superb gameplay. AI algorithm a bit simplistic. Doesn't have sophisticated look-ahead or weighing functions when deciding the next play. Reversi algorithm not that complex, either. When I make a mistake, the AI doesn't take advantage as a real opponent would. I win a lot of games that I should have lost because the AI misses a lot of smashing great moves.

    Great game

4/5 due to the random freezing and having to wait until later to get back to the game. If you think the computer is "cheating" then slide down the difficulty. Very simple and basic game but very fun!

    Yes, but...

Yes, the game does what it is supposed to do. What it does not do is teach you to play well. You need to play well before using this game. Even at the easiest opponent settings the game will beat a novice every time. There are several changes to the program that would help users learn to play. Dumb down the opponent/algorithm. Allow the user to adjust the speed of the opponent's moves so they can be observed. Allow an instant replay, that is, show me that last move again. Why did the opponent make that move? Allow the user to propose a move and have the algorithm show the effect; let the user explore options. If the programmers are willing to be more sophisticated, allow the user to move, allow the algorithm to move and then--allow the user to step backward two moves (user + algorithm) and choose a different move than before. In effect, the user can see the outcome of his/her choice, say "Ouch! Not good" and then try something else. Bottom line: if you already play well use this app; if you don't play well look elsewhere.

    Hard to see the grid.

The game is ok except it is hard to see the grid lines, especially without my reading glasses or in poor light. I frequently screw up because I misjudge which row I am in. That seems like a very easy upgrade - just to make the grid lines white or something more visible. With this change I would give it 5 stars. Other people have complained that the computer will move several times in a row. I don't think there is a problem. The only time I have seen that is when I don't have a move, and then the computer moves until I do have a move. That's the way it is supposed to work. Sometimes it's not obvious to the casual player that they don't have a move. A suggestion would be for the game to put up a quick message that says you don't have a move. That would keep people from thinking the game has a bug. I also wish it would automatically switch back and forth between who goes first. This could be done with or without switching colors. Maybe these could be options. But my most urgent request is to make the grid lines easier to see. Is be happy with just that change

    Pauses any music/podcasts playing

It keeps pausing music/podcasts playing when the app opens and when the app does anything despite music and sound fx within the app are turned off in settings.
