Nostalgia + Cool decks
Love it and keep playing to this day. Would wish there would be better life updates such as a single swipe to switch boards direction, fov change, and a new map would be cool.
Love It
When TouchGrind released in 2008 it totally blew my mind and I played it constantly. Great physics engine and intuitive swipe gestures for tricks.
Great Game!
This game is definantly one of the best for the iTouch or iPhone. It literally lets you do any basic flip trick there is on a skateboard. It even lets you catch the board in mid-air which comes in handy when you are trying to land on rails. It has a accurate score for each trick, the more complex, the more points. But, I think the best part of the game is that you have different boards that do different things. Some boards score higher than others, ollie higher than others, flip faster than others and so on. It gives the game character. But, like every game, it has its downsides. It has a bad camera view that only shows the top of the board and a few feet around it so, you find yourself running in to things because you can't see infront of you. It is also hard to turn and manuever but, playing for a while will get you used to it. I think just about everyone has had a problem with the camera. But, you can't change the angle because you have to touch the top of the board to control it. So i thought it would be really cool if they somehow turned the griptape into an image of what is infront of you, so that you can see! I also had problems with turning. If you get too close to a wall you would have to back up just to turn which is annoying with time limits. I feel it would be better if you could maybe like pick up the board or something.
One of the must have iphone apps.
To put it simply, this is one of the best iPhone/iPod games out there. It is probably the best skating game ever made period. You skate with your fingers and the physics are spot on. The only gripes are the difficulty of seeing obstacles and the smallness of the practice park. Granted, they tried all they could, the icons are useful in telling you when a feature is nearby and the alignment, but awkward and there's a button to see the entire course. However the biggest flaw is the lack of parks/arenas and the lack of a park editor. This however is something that you'll only notice far down the road after you've gotten more than your moneys worth of enjoyment out of this app. If they added a new park or the ability to put obstacles and such in your own custom parks, this would be getting straight 5s from everyone who reviews this. Also another gripe is the lack of seeing what trick you've performed in words, but this again is very minor and with the physics you may end up making your own tricks. All and all, if you like skateboarding at all do yourself a favor and get this app. It's one of the best skateboarding games ever made by far.
Listen to our suggestions! Please!
Great game. I'm kind of a stingy guy but this was definitely worth the money. Easy to learn, but it's definitely a challenge to master it. User xBlackPearlx had some stellar suggestions of this game. First and foremost, I completely agree that a mini-map to navigate the park is a must have. This would make lineing up with ramps and rails so much better and easier. Something like the mini-map from Skate on Xbox 360. Also, custom decks, wheels, and grip tape would be really nice. Uploading your own images to each part would be even better. More tricks like manuals, powerslides, and control over the board in mid air. A no boundary park could be a really easy free skate option. Lastly, I think an ingame menu to control iTunes would be sooo awesome. I would really like to see some of these developments come through. Oh, and instant replays. Keep up the good work! If you agree with these suggestions, please repost. Hopefully we will see them come through in an update. - Instant Replay - No Boundary Park - Custom Decks - Mini-Map - Create a Park - More Tricks - iTunes Synchronization Please listen to us Illusion Labs!
One of the Best Skateboarding Games on the App Store
I bought this game awhile back, and I played for a week or so and put it down, never really getting back into it until a week ago, and I have to say, it was fun. The graphics, controls, and gameplay make it arguably the best skateboarding game on the Apple Store. What makes this game so different, and I think better than all of the other skateboarding games is that it's not from 3rd person view, the controls are so much more simple and easier. The graphics are much better, and the animation is incredibly smooth. The training mode is informative enough, and the jam session mode is fun. I think this game should be game center enabled though, it would make sharing your competition score easier. I DO think that there should be more skateparks. Theres only one open space, which is well developed, but it gets boring. Other than that, the gameplay is great, the sound quality realistic. The camera angle is difficult, it makes it hard to just roam around the area. What you have to do, and what they have is great, is you have to scope out the area and zoom out, then set a marker, and plan out what you are going to do. The replay editor is great, but you should be able to save them. Overall this is a fun game for skateboard lovers and people who like to try something different. Gamelength/Playtime: 7 Gameplay: 8 Graphics: 9.5 Sound: 8.5 Controls: 8.5 Overall: 88- Great
Fun but needs to be improved
I thought this game wasn't going to be worth it, it turned out as one of my best buys. It's hard when you first start but if you give it an hour you learn the gameplay and combinations. This game has allot of boards to choose from, but you have to unlock them and you start off with either a noob board logo or official touch grind logo. Their is one skate park that is pretty big but lame because it doesn't have a maps feature yet, so it's kinda hard to navigate certain things. You can zoom out and view the park, but to me it doesn't help much even though everything is marked with an icon. Here's what I think this game can use! 1. More tricks such as manuals, powerslides, control over your board in mid air. 2. Deck creator and image uploadable. This would be great because if you can't obtain a license for real boarding companys, people could just get the image off the internet and make it possible to have a real board. People will also be creative. 3. Custom grip tape and color choosable 4. Wheel color change 5. Truck color change 6. Mini map to navigate the skate park. 7. Diferent views because the default one may not work for every so they may need to make their board appear bigger or shorter. Some zooming control. 8. Skate park creator 9. A no boundary park with no ramps or rails so people can just practice tricks without running into walls. 10. Pedal to move. These are just my wishes, if you agree please post.
wow and some tips
when I heard of touch grind and saw the videos I thought it was not so good like what if lags and timeing but when I played it it was so good better than any app so far and a kabilliion times than better than the people at iskate thanks for the great app but some stuff u would like to see... 1 it would be so sick if you have a city that you can skate at like with hand rails and leges with planters. 2 it be cool if you have like bowls and do lip tricks on (rock to fakie blunts) stuff like that are really cool. 3 it would also be cool if you have real skate board compines like plan b almost element toy machine stuff like that well that ends my review thanks for reading =D ps for all those people that what to do inposibles well all you have to do is like a kick flip but slide your finger all the way over the opisite kick and release your back finger and there you have a inposible another trick I'd the nollie all you have to do is slide your fingers in the opisite way of a ollie =) hope it helps thanx
Sweet
If you think about it you might say to your self "I'm not payin 5 bucks for an app. Well... First of all don't even ask yourself that question. The makers of thisvgame couldceasily set the pricetag at $10 and it would still be one of the top apps because of it's high quality. It offers you sort of a career mode because you need to unlock boards and it offers you sweet boards once you have unlocked them. So I would say definately buy this game because it's real value could probably be around $20. And as I was saying don't even think twice about saying to yourself that this app is to pricey. Another good app is payback. This is basically a touch/iPhone version of GTA(grand theft auto). I won't go into deal with this because this is a review for touchgrind but I would definately check that out. Have fun with these apps, if you have read this far I must have interested you with something so I sense that you will enjoy this app very much. Thank you, sincerely unanimous
Love it!
Unlike the illustrious Mr. Hawk, most of us who skated hard in the 80's have been relegated to finger boards for several years (we used to make them out of glue, playing cards, and Matchbox cars) - but the boss frowns on such activity in the office. With Touchgrind, my cubicle has been SHREDDED! The control is awesome, the tricks are pretty true-to-life...and my finger board parks have never been so cool! The price is a bit steep compared to similar app entertainment, but I've spent a LOT more on toy boards over the years and they haven't gotten this much use. The only problem on the iPod/iPhone is the size - the board is just right but you can barely see past your nose (or tail as the case may be). It would be a great fix if you could keep your finger on the tail and flick or rotate to turn (that gesture doesn't do anything currently), and one-finger-touch-hold-drag the board into position, expecially in birds-eye view! Simple fixes that will launch Touchgrind easily to that 5th star, and Retina support would be the piping on the lip! Time to throw on some Dead Milkmen and sk8... ~D!
Great game, needs some extra work
Touchgrind is one heck of a cool idea, but needs a bit more work. The graphics are very good, especially for an Iphone game. I am becoming more and more impressed with the quality and graphics of games for the Iphone/Ipod touch. This game just solidifies that. The gameplay is spot on, it takes some getting used to, but it work, and it works well. The only problems I have found though are the turning, it's difficult to turn while moving. It's much easier to just stop and turn, but that slows down gameplay. The second problem is the field of view. The camera is so close to the board that when you come up to something to trick on, it's often too late, you run right into it. The icon saying something is coming up, flashes, but often too early. I come up to a ramp, and the icon flashes, I do a trick right after, but land on the ramp halfway up. If they pull the camera back just a bit, it would be great. Otherwise, it's a great looking game, with some stellar gameplay. Good job guys!
Great game, but needs more updates for 5 stars...
The bottom line is that this IS a great game, and it IS worth $5. The physics are great, you can listen to your own audio, make your own deck, etc. The tricks are pretty well put-together as well. The only thing really holding this game back are updates, and possibly new courses or a course editor. Updates should include some new tricks. Manuals should be implemented, as well as mid-air footwork. For example, late flips or underflips would be an excellent addition. Also, you can force nollies, but it feels like they weren't implemented purposefully, as they don't flow, and nearly stop your momentum. Another great addition would be the ability to primo slide, and trick back out of it. Also, be aware that there is a learning curve to this game. Don't toss up a bad review after spending 10 minutes with it. Once you do get the hang of it, though, it's really alot of fun, and worth your $5, Illusion Labs has really put together a nice little gem here.
Would have fathered burn a $5 bill
I wish I just burned a $5 bill instead of buying this.
Don’t Waste Your Money
Not at all like Skate 2. Total waste of money.
