    Entertaining and nostalgic

Excellent game. Tin Man Games raised the bar with this one. They know story telling and this is a great adaptation of the original gamebook. The graphics—especially the way rooms fall into view—and the use of 'miniatures' is a nice touch without being gimmicky. Well done. Add auto rotation so I don't have to relearn right and left ;-) I understand the gripes about save points, but this gamebook implements them in a smart manner consistent with old-school game mechanics. Games used to have consequences. Complaining about having to replay a small portion of the game? I don't get that—you're playing a game!

    Complaining about auto rotate

Seriously? "It is upside down no matter how many times I flip my iPad". All you have to do is flip it once. It's not upside down just because the button isn't where you want it to be. Are you guys serious? Also to those complaining about in app purchases, it says more DLC/characters can be bought right in the title. What the heck is wrong with you guys? Anyways... Great game without auto-rotate. And those that cried about it should update their reviews now that it has been added.

    Modern nostalgia

Very impressed with the direction of an old 80's game book classic... I first fell in love with the series when I read Deathtrap Dungeon and later visited Firetop Mountain. The new visual 3D map while reading the text makes it seem like playing an old tabletop rpg and really immerses you in the Fighting Fantasy world. The old art and the new characters you choose from help catapult this app into an instant classic! I can't wait until they decide to make Deathtrap Dungeon in this format.

    D&D fan? GET THIS

By no means am I a D&D know it all, nor am I a crazed table top game person, but let me tell you that if you like any sort if rpg, D&D, diablo-esk game, fantasy in any degree, this is for you. I never heard of the original warlock of firetop mountain, but holy balls this game is fun and challenging enough to make you come back for more. I think there are about 11? Playable characters, each with their own playstyle. There's a fair amount of pictures which can be seen in both the original black and white art work or with color. Both amazing in their own right, which bring more life to the game. Without a doubt, first app I purchase which doesn't make me feel like I wasted my money. Worth every single penny. My only complaint is that I want more of this world.

Enjoyable entry in the genre but some minor gripe

Update: screen orientation issue fixed, rating raised :) Not quite perfect but very nice indeed. So far, so fun. I think it's distinct enough from Inkle's offerings, and I'm not going to complain about more entries in one of my favourite genres. Looks great on the larger iPad (but a minor issue, at the end). However, now that you have this game engine working, and played it safe by recycling yet again an ancient gamebook, how about using it for some new, original content? (and of course the same holds true for Inkle as well) I'd very much support that! With my wallet! One star docked for not auto sensing orientation... I understand that portrait mode is not an option since it changes the whole aspect ratio & layout, but come on, at least flip your game the right side up... many people use non-rotatable cases, how is that supposed to work? (Er, well... I had to fold over the cover completely and prop the whole thing up against something else on the table, awkward)

    Auto rotate!

Game seems good so far! Please allow auto rotate or at least flip the current alignment as it is opposite for us right handers that like the iPad home button on the right when in landscape mode. Hope that's an easy fix that comes soon!

I haven’t been able to land a hit.

Look great but I haven't landed a hit yet. In this game you don't attack a space occupied by the opponent, instead you attack a space you think the opponent will go. Sound confusing? It is.

    Excellent game, buggy as hell

The game itself is excellent. I ended up buying the "complete" pack which was $7 to unlock all the characters. But whenever I select Wilhelm the game crashes to home screen. Also, there are multiple graphics and interface issues. I contacted the developer and have gotten no response. Great job on the game but it needs to be supported better. Crashes like that should be absent especially in a great game like this. Fix it for 5 stars you Aussie maniacs.

    Good game, but....

I love the idea of this game. It's exactly like playing a tabletop RPG. The graphics and sound effects are quite good. All of that being said, the game makes use of my least favorite video game mechanic: the save point. This means that when you die, your character respawns at the last save point. This leads to repeating challenges you have already passed successfully. My hatred for save points is actually strong enough that I ended up deleting the game.

    Disappointing

The miniatures was a cool addition, but the game play is very disappointing. First off, a lot of times the choices you're given don't provide enough information to make an informed decision. Finding the best choice feels random, and it feels like you just get randomly punished instead of being able to make smart decisions. Secondly, I wanted to like the combat, but it's really not fun and just about learning whatever random pattern the monsters have by continuously restarting the fight to learn the pattern, or face running out of health before too long. Overall, the game is disappointing.

    Broke Tap to Continue...

Was 5 stars, but your last patch broke Tap to Continue, so it does not work half the time. This makes the game unplayable, and, thus 1 Star. Fix the problem and don’t patch in additional problems, and the review will go back to 5 stars.

    Buggy

Tapping to continue fails occasionally...which means you cannot continue...which means the game is unplayable.

Awesome game, but crashes on iPad OS 13

I would give this game 5 stars - but it crashes on load with iPad OS 13. Please update, or stop selling it!
