Good game that can be improved
This game is a standard clone of a few popular games currently on the market (SWGoH, Marvel Clash of Champions, and Strike Force to name a few). That being said the game is great and I have made it to level 20 without feeling a paywall yet, however I can tell it won’t be long. Coins do not accumulate quick enough and the highest I can get in the coin event would be 15,000. The coin event runs about 3 times a week I believe. With a mini fig needing 50,000 to get to 2 stars it is obvious that getting to 3 stars with my whole team of 5 minis will be a daunting task... let alone to get to 6-7. I know by then I will be able to achieve more and the payout will be larger however with the current coin structure it is clear the developer wants money and lots of it. I believes increasing the coin payouts by a little would alleviate the resource bottleneck by a lot and help push back the paywall to allow players who don’t want to dump tremendous amounts of money to still enjoy the game.
Series suggestion
First off, this game looks great! Definitely gonna download it after I free up space, I love games of this style, and this one has a base you can customize, and I just love lego in general. But I have a personal problem, It’s missing some other series’s, I know it says more to come. But I want to just go ahead and ask, just to get this off my mind. Lego Legends of Chima, it was such a unique concept, my love for the animal kingdom made this stand out to me, i STILL collect sets I find on eBay, even with it being more than five years after the last episode. I would love for them to add this, and perhaps buildings to go with them, it would be nice to have a hint of the old days, when I used to play the old Chima Online website game, Even if the devs don’t end up adding them, (or reading this..) I still am interested to give this a shot. Let’s hope it’s as good as it seems.
No game balance
Game was fun for a while. Definitely gets to be expensive pay to play if you want to advance and compete against other players which can be ok if game continues to evolve and be entertaining. So why the 1 star rating? It’s because the developers do not work to create any game balance or put much thought into the game at all other then trying to make you pay. All of the top teams are exactly the same 5 lego characters. Why have other hero’s at all if you just make development mistakes that overweight one theme or team and then never correct it? So if you want a distraction for a while, play as long as you can for free and then don’t spend the cash to go further because its a big waste of money in the long run.
Been waiting a long time for this!
First of all, I’ve been waiting for a lego game like this to come out ever since i got into this specific genre type on IOS/Android. When I saw this app appear in the AppStore it was an immediate download. Real review: The game is a lot of fun and, for me, pretty addicting. The game gives you a lot of energy when you first start too so you can play for quite a while. The game mechanics are cool and it was multiple stories, challenges, events, and characters. For the past few days I’ve been on this game every chance I get to, and I always enjoy it just as much as the last time. HOWEVER: Once you get to where I am in the game (around level 10-15) you start to realize how little energy you have for things. I’m level 16 and my max energy isn’t even 100. Every quest takes up about 5 or more energy, which although might seem like you can play for a while, you can’t unless you don’t grind to boost character power, which is pretty much impossible. I’m able to waste 60+ energy in 5 minutes grinding for stuff. This morning it took me around 10 to 15 minutes to use up all of my energy. It takes 50 gems to refill energy, gems that you could also save for character packs, which is what I do. (It takes 400+ gems). Although the game is a bit pay to win, and the max energy amount is quite low, I still get on the game as often as I can to play, and would highly recommend people to play this game.
80s/90s Kid imaginations realized.
This is an absolutely amazing game. Simple enough that my kids can pick it up and play it, but complex enough that there are strategies and synergies to play with in order to be competitive in pvp. Honestly, the game deserves a solid 5 stars, but I decided to drop it down to 4 simply due to the events not being accessible to new players after the world wide release as they all seem tailored to those who’ve played since early access started in September (I.g. Couldn’t participate in the latest event at all because I didn’t have 5 city characters yet and for more events can only do one or two tiles because you need 2 or 3 star heroes). Regardless, Gameloft has made every effort to ensure the early release servers and word launch servers are kept separate (even offering server transfers if you fell into the early release server in February). They offer enough variety that there is something new to do everyday day. Energy seems to replenish slowly, but that’s only because we’re all too addicted to put the phone down a few minutes. Looking forward to future content such as raids etc. Loving the nostalgia of being able to play with many of the characters friends or I owned back in the late 80s / early 90s.
Coin accumulation is WAY too low
The game is great and a lot of fun. I’ve been playing since the beginning. I have almost 60 minifigs and have gotten around 10 to max level and max gear at this point. The problem is that with the coins there just aren’t enough of them. It can take weeks of working on one single minifig to level it up like that. And then it seems every single update the expand the levels you can get to. Meanwhile I’ve lost thousands and thousands of XP because when you hit max level they just disappear. Every update that raises gear level and minifig level makes me want to play the game less because it’s already hard enough to get where I’ve gotten and then they just move the goal posts without giving any type of bonuses. I’m probably going to quit playing pretty soon, and I’ve been a daily player for the past 10 months. It’s a bummer but these updates are NOT making the game better. Stop expanding gear and minifig levels or do it all at once otherwise you’re going to keep losing the daily players. It takes to fun out of maxing everything out only to find out you have to spend millions and millions of coins to get to a new point.
LOVE IT but please read...
This game is great. I love how it is using random characters from sets. I thought I wouldn’t like it just because I didn’t know any of the characters. But the game makes you attached to each of the characters by giving them back stories and trivia. One thing I was super happy about was seeing that Ninjago characters were in this game. Let me just say that I love that touch but if you’re going to put a gang of characters from your most popular show in this game, you need to do them all. The game has Kai, Lloyd, Jay, Zane, Nya, Wu, Garmadon, and even a shark minion from the movie but Cole is missing. I guess I’m just asking that you add him. It would also be cool if the game had some characters from other LEGO shows like China or even Nexo Nights. Again just a suggestion but I feel like it would just make the game even better. To summarize this is an awesome game and I love it but please add Cole and think about adding other characters from LEGO shows/movies if possible.
Great to play in your off time!
I've been playing this game for a long time -- about 7 months, I think. I've stuck with it, and here's my review: The gameplay is great! As the page says, it does require strategy to come up with good teams. Arena's probably the best place for strategic fights, since the teams are player chosen, but you can get some fun levels in the campaign too. Occasionally there are gaffes, like with Brixpedition often being boring and inconsistent and with some campaign levels sticking you with completely useless allies, but overall the actual battles are worth it. Outside of battles, you basically grind for resources all the time. It's somewhat hard to just sit down and grind resources for a full day, and is better to just pick it up occasionally and just spend a lot of energy at once. It's great if you've got a small break at college or work! But there's one major downside... ...this app eats up your battery life like nothing else. Like seriously, I can go from 40% to 20 within 10 minutes sometimes. So be careful of that. One last thing to say: join the community Discord server. This game is at least half as fun without said server. You'll get much better at the game and get into much better guilds if you join. As a plus, it and almost all of the side servers branching off of it are pretty clean, friendly, and well managed. So do that!
Beautiful but broken
I loved this game for the first week or two, but quickly realized how broken the gold system is. There are several games out there in this genre but LEGO is probably the most polished and good-looking of the bunch. And the music is great! Everything feels great but you will quickly find yourself literally sitting with several characters with enough stars to level up and gear to level them up, but no gold to be found anywhere... I am level 39 and have not been able to level up a character past 34 for 3 weeks now! Get all daily challenges complete, spend all energy, but I have 3 characters who could be 4 stars, but again, no gold to be found anywhere! Frustrating beyond belief, the only way to do anything is to pay real money for gold constantly which I refuse to do. As I said, there is a Star Wars, Marvel and Disney version of all of these which unfortunately all have more to do and don’t put up pay walls in your face right away. Sad, because I like the vibe of LEGO the best. Fix the gold and it could be awesome!
Lots of LEGO fun, but..
The game has so many nice features. The home town is great, lots of story missions, you can join guilds, and so many LEGO figures to choose from. There is even online arena competition. Great game overall. Leveling up takes time but you can see the changes in your character effectiveness and power. The only downside is the arena mode. Almost everyone uses the same couple characters. You can check the leaderboard for the top 100 teams and, no joke, it’s almost all the same characters. And that’s where the game kind of loses its fun. You should be able to have more balance between all the various characters, and all characters should have a good chance to compete, but there isn’t. That’s where and why I’m rating this game at 3 stars. There’s no point in adding new characters and having events if you don’t also make those characters equally as strong as the pirate teams. Cuz why bother collecting stuff you will never use?
Has Promise, But Lacking
This game has a lot of promise. It’s quirky, and has interesting characters and story. It’s your typical “collect characters, quest, and fight” game. That means that you have energy that runs out, and are asked to shell out real money for items and packs to assist you. That’s par for the course for this type of game, and honestly, this game isn’t as pushy about it as other games. What I find lacking is the building mechanic. What I love most about LEGO is following schematics and actually building things. The ads for this game made me think that someone had finally found a way to incorporate this mechanic into games (after all, you can play crossword puzzles on your phone, but so far you can’t build LEGO). However, after gathering enough materials to build my first ‘set’, I was disappointed to find that I had to watch a video of it being put together, with no input from me. Oh well, I guess I’ll just keep dreaming.
Money grab by GameLoft
I have played the game since day one and it turns out this game just wants money - lots of it! While the fighting itself is enjoyable, it is no surprise that in order to win at anything but the basic low level you have to dump a large amount of money! To win, you need to get characters to levels/stars/stats/gear high enough to be able to make it past the mid year and not much of a chance at higher levels. I enjoyed the game so I did invest to level up some LEGO fighter and purchased the new limited time ones (spooky girl and zombie). It turns out they still aren’t advanced enough to win at the end part of the story missions, and certainly don’t have a shot at arena without investing hundreds or thousands of dollars. The new unlocked characters they have right now are limited time and have to be big enough as a full team (ie all 5-star pirates) in order to get the likes of the Nijago wizard Wu. As a collector, beware you won’t be able to get them all without hundreds to thousands of dollars. A far cry from buying a video game meant to be enjoyable for the sake of playing. I feel that GameLoft is giving the LEGO company a bad name since I can pay less and get more actual figures. Good luck! A nice concept, but definitely a “gotcha” game.
Fun game but eventual frustration will ensue
I have played several games similar to this one , Star Wars, marvel, among others, and this one is one of the most frustrating ones to play. Gear is often locked in tiers u can’t get the level to reach without reaching that gear level first. So you can get stuck if you don’t have at least an explorer team and a builder team at close to max level. The most frustrating thing to me is the obvious difference in dodge and miss rates the enemy team will have. No matter if it is pvp, events, or campaign. Even when against mirror teams, they often dodge 3-7 times a match where I am lucky to get 1-3. I do recognize some campaign events start u with a debuff to my teams accuracy, but when no buffs or debuffs are present it’s a clear discrepancy towards the enemy team no matter the situation. Even against teams 20-30 levels below my own team. It isn’t uncommon for the first attack in a match to miss or dodge. I enjoy the characters and the music and the graphic style, but the game play frustration was too much for me to overcome. After 3 patches and no change or even mention of this , the over all frustration caused any enjoyment of the game I had to wane.
Unfortunate
Tried to give this game the benefit of the doubt as it is fun at first and I don’t mind pay to win games but with the update they just released I think I’m done. For starters upgrades are way too expensive once you hit level 40ish, Mainly because there’s no way to make any money except to buy it with gems. You have zero interaction with your guild. The only thing you can do is pick 2 heroes and hope one of your guild mates uses them so you can get rewards cant even talk to them, Battles are wayyyy too long. Even on max speed and auto fight you have to fight your way through 14 or 15 opponents sometimes which can take up to 10 minutes! There are lego heroes on my team that require level 41 to upgrade certain gear yet the items you need for the upgrade aren’t available till you are level 45... not sure how much sense that makes especially since it takes so long to level now. And their latest update that i was excited to load up, instead of giving us much needed content all they gave us is more bundles to pay for. Sad really cause I enjoyed the game at first but the team obviously is not interested in the longevity of this game.
