Video Manual: How to Use the Popscene (Music Industry Sim) App

How does it Work?

Bring your music collection to life with animated performances as you embark on a career in the industry! Form your own band by recruiting talent from over 100 artists across 6 unique labels. Then record hits that will top the charts and take them on the road to over 20 different venues - complete with real reviews that scrutinize your strengths and weaknesses. With an endless schedule of possibilities before you, and an ever-evolving industry to immerse yourself in, Popscene captures the highs and lows of music in the palm of your hand!

* Please note that this game's use of MP3s may not be compatible with some devices. If this affects you, consider turning off MP3 music in the options.

PLAYING GUIDE:

Popscene divides the music making process into entertainment (represented by stars) and artistry (represented by hearts). As in real life, popular music is more likely to shoot up the charts and draw fans - but without substance, the success may be short-lived. Each of the game's many artists has the following attributes that influence this process:

- POPULARITY is the artist's ability to draw fans to entertaining content.

- REPUTATION is their ability to draw fans to artistic content.

- PERFORMANCE is their ability to perform entertaining songs live.

- TALENT is their ability to perform artistic songs live.

- PRODUCTION is their ability to compose entertaining music.

- WRITING is their ability to compose artistic music.

- HAPPINESS is the pleasure they currently get from their work.

- ATTITUDE indicates how likely they are to either contribute or cause trouble.

Each week, depending on the size of your team and their collective attitude, new songs may be recorded. Each member of the team contributes their score to a new song, and whoever scores the highest will be credited with making it. Members who are dedicated backstage staff will contribute twice instead of once - increasing the chances of a good song being written.

Once songs exist, it is the on-stage performers who must bring it to life. As with writing, each band member on stage contributes their score and the highest determines how well the song was received in each category. This time, it is the "frontman" who gets to contribute twice instead of once - so consider who is at the forefront.

The overall rating for a show is the average of all the songs performed - albeit slightly more generous so that perfection is not required. This is also true of album reviews. A 5-star performance may consist of consistent 4-star contributions. Reviews are where your performances feed back into the stats that produced them, because each attribute will rise or fall to reflect what just happened.

When booking venues, you must consider how much it will cost versus how much you are likely to recoup. Tickets are sold at $5 per song so it depends how long your set is. You will receive a percentage of this revenue, and must then use that to pay your employees and any other expenses. Singles are sold at $1 each whereas albums are sold at $1 per song for a maximum of $10. If you have a week of inactivity, you may find that you make a loss because of the expenses of your lifestyle (which reflects your wealth).

I regret there is more to this game than I could ever explain here, so enjoy figuring some things out for yourself!

    Pls update !!!

I want to say that, this game is amazing, no doubt. But it can be way better, if you can update it and add more things, like all the things artists can do in real life, like interviews, photoshoots and other things that would be cool !!! Also if you can update the faces and hair, you know like the faces and hair we have in survival and super city? If you can add that it’d be amazing...but also, I just want to say that this game is fun for awhile but in honesty there’s not much you can do...yeah i make a song it gets top 10 (my highest for a single is #6) then i get signed to epic talent or another label, then i release my album it gets top ten as well (my highest for an album is #3) then I do some shows, get sued and almost dropped from my label, then it gets boring and i don’t play for a month...i’m just telling that it would be funner if you added more things and I’d never stop playing ❤️

If your Questioning this game, GET IT!!!

This game is soooo fun, it makes the time go by really fast! It doesn't drain your phone battery life, which is good. Although this game is good it can be GREAT if there was more in depth than it already is. TIPS TO THE DEVELOPER(S) Add more places to preform. Add more drama. Add instructions in the beginning. Add more ways to get money (like Commercials, TV roles, Award Shows, merch, Etc.) Improve the Award show system. Improve the Talent show system. Improve the relationship system. Add a star ranking status. Add more in game music. Improve the group/ collaboration system. I have many more ideas, but I would like to keep it short. I love this game and I would be more than happy to recommend this game to friends and share the fun!

    Add these features

I love this game and everything but I do like other people have something to say about this there should be collaboration in the music industry and there should also have music videos and shoot them with google images like take one out of a singers background also add touring and interviews also they should be doing shopping or celebrities just being outside and there’s crazy fans and paparazzi and other stuff like 15 or less songs you could have for a album and not have the people your working with decide what you have to do cause well it’s annoying so love you please do this and I’m your biggest fan :)

    I LOVE IT !!

This IS AN AWESOME APP But it needs a serious Update I Have a lot of money in Game and there should be things you could Buy with that money Also Just like in the real music industry rappers not all the time make diss tracks they actually fight since Most of the games are fighting Games There should be a way you could settle your beef if instead of seeing who the best Is Between the two artist by preforming Songs they should just be able to fight. Also you should be able to have a girlfriend and ETC Buy clothing it’s a lot more that this great app can do and I know it is possible Thanks For the Great App Still playing All of your games in 2018 💯🔥❤️❤️

    This game is Fun!

The only problem I see is the Margin. Like if I make $200 million dollars. My expenses go up high when I might only make $5-7 million dollars off album sales. I say instead if each song costing 1 dollar. Make it 2 dollars for a total of 20 dollars when we have all 10 songs (album) and also allow us to buy cars and houses maybe? But really I just wanna see change in the margin. It’s a nice fun game that teaches you business. No complaints here. Keep up the good work Mdickie@

    Great

Popscene is a game I’ve been playing since it’s release, it’s a bit repetitive but it’s a game that I can play for years, though to get a better experience you would need the VIP, then you can fully control everything, the only thing I would say this game is missing would be a needed update, it’s been about a year or so, mix things up and this could compete with wrestling revolution.

Awesome Game, Chart System Needs Fixing

So this game is amazing and everything I’ve asked for, but the one thing that bothers me about the game is how screwy the charting system is. Like, how you can only have one single out at a time, the album chart being the same as the single chart, or how after an album is released you can’t release any more singles. I mean, it’s not the worst thing in the world, it’s just annoying when you want to have multiple songs in the top 10 or have a number one album AND number one single. Also, there should be like Gold and Platinum rewards and such. That’s all.

    PLEASE READ

hi , I wanted to write this to the creators even though I doubt they’ll see :/ I love this game a lot and it is so convenient on mobile, since it doesn’t work on my computer. However as it gets older I notice more and more glitches. Now, I can no longer import mp3 music into my game. It just crashes or restarts the app. I am begging you see this, and can create a new update to fix compatibility issues with the newer phones & iPhone updates 🙏🏻 thanks!

    Update

This game could be one of the best you’ve ever made if you could just update it. After a while it gets boring and it would be way better if you would add more drama and more artists to compete against. It would also be great if you would change to collaborate with artists instead of creating a band with them. Add small little details as well to improve it. Thank you for giving birth to this game tho:)

    13yr old

Hi creator or person reading this I love this game and all the other games you made but this game I would love if you could make a (Popscene Booking revolution) so you own the company your the millionaire who pays the people and creates the music your the boss it would be pretty cool and you could also make music and crap your self but it would be pretty hard to do this but please look into it thank you and thanks for making these amazing games

I like it! It needs new stuff though...

I really like this game, it’s fun and it inspires me to work on music! I just think we should add a little bit more of “stuff” in the game like: Tours, Customizable Instruments, Countries (MAYBE), And More Venues, and There should be a way to make songs so you don’t just have to wait for the next song to pop up. I would really like to see these in the game so thank you!

Awesome Game but please update it!

This is a very fun game if your bored and stuff but like it’s too repetitive and needs some updates, hopefully you put all the suggestions I have one by one (take ur time): 1. Make a different chart for albums and singles 2. Allow for promo to affect a singles chart position 3. Instead of using sales for the chart positions for the singles, make a point system instead like from the billboard hot 100 charts, like points from streams, sales, radio spins, etc.. 4. Add a streaming service into this game 5. Add a radio service pls 6. Even if a artists is popular, (like 99 max) don’t have ALL their songs peak and debut at no. 1 like it’s frustrating add a challenge to affect a singles chart position or something. 7. Add certifications for a song and album. 8. Let us send a single even if the album is already released. 9. Also make it possible to have a 1 to 3 million opening weekend if an artist have a strong connection with their fans. 10. Add social media websites into the game so we could promote to the fans and stuff 11. Also if my song didn’t chart in the top 10, I l would like to see all the songs on the chart like scroll down and stuff. 12. Last but not the least make it harder for an artist to make another era of their album be a success I surely want some challenges on the way or make my album deliberately flop..

    Complains.

Ok first of the music. The first one you given to does not even match with whatever you have. Also I hate this very much, to use other music, you gotta have a mp3 player. I don’t know what that it is and i don’t have it, my suggestion is to add any song the player wants. Also when you start you only get one song. I don’t know how it works. Other than that the games fine the developers have horrible taste in putting music for new players but i respect that. Thanks for reading my review.

    Making Songs...

Okay, so at first I didn’t know how to make a song at all. I looked it up and learned the band members make them and you basically only make financial decisions. This is utterly boring. I would expect Mat to find some way to make it more playable. Then comes the problem with the band members making them; I don’t know if it’s only me, but the members begin pumping out songs like they drank 10 bottles of Mountain Dew and later on it seems like they just stop permanently. That leaves you with less money, which means it is harder to pay them, which means your stats go down, which means you don’t make as much money from concerts, which means you will eventually go back to the underground, which means if you get new members and somehow produce a song you probably won’t make the charts, which means you will have less money. And... Game Over. New Game. Repeat. Ect.
