So much fun!
My family and I had a great time solving a mystery in Lowell, MA this past weekend! The app took a few mins to figure out, but once we found the first couple of “witnesses” we got the hang of it pretty quickly. I had never really been Lowell before, so this was a fun way to get to know the city and see some landmarks. A creative and COVID-safe way to get together with some friends. We are definitely going to look into doing another one when it comes into our area again. Thanks for a fun time!
Great Time - Needs a few tweaks
Pros: easy to use app, fun event with friends that makes you think as well as gets you moving. Cons: gps is glitchy in some areas and witnesses/suspects wouldn’t unlock when in vicinity; also some questions seemed to glitch when selecting correct answer and would not accept as correct. Overall lots of fun with the themes, app, and the ability to build teams to solve mysteries. It also gets you into an area where you can appreciate the character of a city.
Get way to explore a walkable city
It was great way to walk and spend a socially distance activity with friends and family! I liked that there were time penalties for taking short cuts and bonus questions and time gains for walking the trail. There could have been a better description of how to proceed through the game beforehand. Bring comfortable walking shoes and make sure to bring water bottles and snacks for the kids if you do this as a family.
Awesome game but app problems
We loved the storyline and, as always, a super fun day out! The mechanics of the app need some work - in particular, the map was a bit wonky and didn’t function properly. (Location of items and orientation of map.) It would have been nice if the correct answers to riddles were given if you get the question wrong. We love CluedUpp games. Please come back to Charleston soon!
Fantastic game
Just wrapped up the Clued Upp Milwaukee Ripper case. It was a great morning of fun and let us rediscover parts of the place where we live. The plot was well written and planned out. We had no issues using the app. I think it would be fun to have more of the riddles and clues involve the real life locations. We look forward to doing this again.
It Played in Peoria
Really love the concept of this game. The app provided a great mix of traditional clues, riddles to solve, making us look around and notice something in the area, and character stories. You’re basically on a GPS map and trying to move to a large number of clues (like 40 some) in a several block radius. The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was because sometimes the map was finicky and didn’t stay oriented the way you wanted it or the GPS would be a little off or not register, so it slowed us down in getting some of the clues, you’d have to stand on a clue for a while before the clue would open sometimes. But it’s a great way to spend a few hours and overall the app was very user friendly.
Famous Dicks Solve the Case
This was a fun experience for a Saturday afternoon. Dressing up as Magnum PI, Veronica Mars, Encyclopedia Brown, and Miss Marple added to the fun. It was entertaining seeing the other groups that were dressed up. It was cute and clever. There were some clues that were wonky and grammatically incorrect. We were hoping for some human interaction and mocked up crime scenes but that is tricky particularly during a pandemic and would effect ticket prices. I would do it again in a different city- this did show me that there is not much happening in downtown Orlando on a Saturday.
Fun way to spend your day
We had a lot of fun exploring our city and playing the puzzles. The mystery story was engaging and well thought out. Definitely bring something to take notes with! We loved dressing up and taking silly team pictures too. The only issue we had with the game was that the clue/suspect radius was a bit too small. We frequently found ourselves having to cross the street to get the clue to activate when we were right across from it.
Fun, a few tweaks needed
Pros: fun activity to do w friends, allows for social distance, no outside knowledge needed to play, real life clues were very fun Cons: gps doesn’t work well amongst tall buildings, so it can be difficult to trigger the clue; a bit too many elements w question marks, ravens, charms, so can feel over complicated unnecessarily; competitive players can split up to get all the clues quicker by volleying the “take leadership” Overall: super fun, plan for several hours walking, take a clipboard
Pittsburgh Event
In the future, I would not recommend having it in downtown Pittsburgh. The GPS would not work that well with the tall buildings. We did the one the previous year in Pittsburgh on the north side. That one worked a lot better. Plus, the climate was not very family friendly. There were a lot of homeless people bothering people. Definitely had fun though and would do again.
Waste of time and money
Instructions are nonexistent. The GPS doesn’t work well in a tall building environment like downtowns, so you can’t get clues or witnesses to activate, and end up just taking the time penalty to activate it. Speaking of time penalties, there are a lot of them and little to no warning. Our team leader logged in while we were still at home, and we got a 20 minute penalty for not being in the play area. I thought the riddles were all pretty childish. The “clues” are more like statements of fact, and it was ridiculously obvious who the killer and weapon were after visiting just a few of the spots. I’m glad someone else paid for this, because I would be demanding a refund. The only reason it’s not 1 star, is because I did enjoy seeing the other teams running around in their costumes, but other than that, it’s a total waste of time and money.
Good concept but technology didn’t work
The idea was great but the app did not work very well at all which was extremely frustrating. We would arrive at the location of a clue but it would not open. We tried closing and reopening the app which worked the first few times. More clues would not unlock then would, which really slowed the game down and sucked the fun out. We ran into multiple groups playing the same game who were having the same problem on different types of devices. We had planned our entire day over having fun playing this game and solving the mystery but the app was so bad that we eventually just quit and gave up because no clues would open. Do not waste your money or time, such a disappointment.
GPS not good
Concept is a fun idea. It was fun coming across other teams during the game. The huge down side was that the GPS was way too finicky and not precise. We had to walk around the area to interview people way too much before thE GPS picked us up and the game gave us information. We saw other teams able to get the information quickly. We would even stand and walk around the areas the last team was and still wouldn’t get anything. This wasted a lot of time and caused frustration on our part. We tried changing leaders to see if it would help, it didnt. We ended up just forfeiting the game....bummer since we had such high hopes for something different to do.
I HATE IT😡
Me and my family decided we were going to get on at 1:45 and it gave 5 minute penalty for getting on 20 minutes early. Then we got a penalty for trying to navigate with GPS because it does not show us were to go. And then we needed to switch leader but it did not let us on leaders phone. And when we did switch team leader it took a ten minute penalty. It also said it was city wide and it IS NOT .So in the end we stopped because it closed $65 just to play and had a 5 hour penalty. I shouldn’t forget it does not let you refund so do NOT PLAY
