Fun game but please continue development
This is a fun variation of the Polytopia genre. I finished all levels for all tribes in both modes. I was happy to buy the coin tribes to support the developer and had no problem earning the gems to activate the gem tribes and special units. I would buy more tribes if the developer offered them. If they add multiplayer, then this game might take off. There isn’t much of a player base at the moment. Some suggestions... the units need more play balance before offering multiplayer. Some tribes have special units and guardian units that are way overpowered. The flying dragons and eagle are too dominating and can run through an early map. Knights are also too powerful. I discovered that any tribe can easily win the center-ocean or border-ocean maps with a “knight-rush” strategy. The knight unit can one-hit win against most early units, can move three spaces, attack after moving, and attack again and again until losing. That is just too much. The knight-rush can clear a medium map in 15 turns. Overall this is a good game and I recommend it to all ages. I congratulate the developers and wish them future success. However, I will probably stop playing soon because there is nothing left to do that is either instructive or fun.
Great and entertaining
I downloaded this thinking it was going to be a bad game, but I as soon as I started playing it liked it. I like the how the characters look and how you can zoom up close! I like how each tribe has their own guardian, I also can wait for future tribes. Im looking forward to buying some of the tribes actually too. Ive spent hours playing this and defeating the other tribes and it super cool. It would be cool if your playing like against 4 tribes to have an option to ally with another tribe, I was playing on rookie and against 2 other tribes; they both pushed me and didn’t even attack each other, they just focused on me. Also I barely started the game and I think I was in turn 6 when they started appearing and pushing in on me. Other than that great game and would be great if you could add that Allie feature it would make the game more entertaining!
Great fun game, right level for a quick battle
Lovely game, graphics and animation looks great, then the gameplay was better than I expected, it's a bit unusual - like costs go up as you get more cities with initially was strange but I quickly got the idea - it might make me think more about researching before capturing more city's. I real the other reviews and they are complaining about wanting more FREE stuff, it's sad that they don't realize if it's all free the developer gets nothing! If you even like the game a bit it's worth 1.99 I liked the free stuff it was more than enough to know this is a game I want, so I have bought some teams. Ideas: larger maps and more variety would be nice for longer games, but I enjoy the smaller games for short trips and between work breaks.
Better than I expected
I thought this game was going to be long but it’s pretty short. To all of you who read reviews beforehand it gets pretty difficult and there is so much going on the more AI’s you add. For all those who think civilization is to complicated get this game. For the creator I love it. I like that there is no settling all you do is go to a village and conquer it but please make it so we can do multiplayer. Also don’t make the guys you get by paying too overpowered and make more teams that don’t cost money. I agree with Haddan hassan but you could make a all animal team like archer’s are some animal that shoots stuff I don’t know but please make some more teams that cost money.(please respond to this review)
Awesome game!!!😁Just a few things
First off I would like to say I love this game and hope that it lives on. I only really have one problem with this game and it is not a big problem. I don’t really like how there are only three teams that you can pick from and the others cost real money to pay for. I can understand though if that money goes toward making the game better. I also had a few ideas for other teams. My main idea is that you make a Pirate team with the seashell class as a starter class. They should be near water always and the fort I would like if it was a ship on land. It is just a idea but if you see this I hope you carry on this game for years.
Super simple fun
This game is great, a nice way to spend time while you wait for something irl to happen. It’s got a pretty cool way to progress and unlock new tribes and units within tribes that take some grinding all for free. There’s quite a lot you get if you go for in-app purchases but aren’t necessary (I haven’t gotten them). I do have a request though! After each play through you have your score screen. If you click through it too fast then you lost your results, maybe another button on the main menu for (recent matches). That way you can evaluate your play throughs and maximize your score how you want in order to get those 3 stars.
Potential improvements
This is a very rare hard core strategy game in the present days, and to see this more clearly, please notice that quite a few disappointed comments complain about the difficulty. Congrats devs, you’ve succeeded when some users beg you to force them think harder. A higher level of difficulty like “grand master” is desired, where AIs are allowed to employ advanced/unique units. Also, the origin of a tribe may not be dominated by sources that they haven’t learned to gather. Along with above is a little concern for the balance, although you have done quite well. The tribe of Hahn is weak in two aspects. Since mines are on hills, their territory is usually the hilliest. With a higher cost of pavement, their development is often tougher than others. In addition, spearmen and swordsmen are weak under comparison with calvary. To solve this I would suggest to make them immune to zone of control (ZOC), so than they have some usefulness. Finally, the option “+2 population” for level 2 to 3 upgrade is almost ignorable, which reflects the lack of importance of population. We may rebalance by weighting the # of people (1 knight=3 persons, 1 horseman =2, etc.), or counting dead units to enhance the rarity of population, or replacing the option by “reducing research cost” (not counting this city when researching) or some other option. Keep on hardworking, and it will pay off. Best wishes for you guys in the tough days!
Great start, needs more
I love this game and play it all the time. I don’t ever leave reviews on games but I really want more out of this one! Developers, offer a couple more tribes for free or in exchange for accomplishing difficult achievements like the first three; or, offer all tribes in exchange for achievements and offer different tribe skins for money; or different map types maybe? Also allowing the player to play against 3 tribes instead of just 2 would be nice (we could unlock this as we unlock more tribes to play as). A peace option for tribes like on civilizations would be a cool addition as well. Also an online multiplayer where u play against another persons tribe would be so awesome. I would definitely purchase features from this game if it offered more tribes, maps, features, and unlockable items for the average person who isn’t going to spend money on a game like this. I love this game so much so keep improving it!!
Comments/suggestions
I think this is a wonderful game that I’m been looking for a very long time it fits my strategy style. It’s a beautiful game and I love how they devs made many different tribes with their own little style. However it would be nice if the devs add a mode to where it can have all the tribes on a map that’s a lot bigger and takes longer maybe a few hours or days to conquer it all. I think this would be amazing. Maybe have a game mode where you can also become teammates with AI then kill them in the end if you please or have the AI turn on you. Something that keeps you on your toes. Also I think the maps are well designed but I think the devs should add small, medium, big and huge maps to the game play to spice it up. Maybe , just maybe later down the road add a multiplayer mode to it. Thank you for the amazing game
Room for improvement
I think this game is still more of a concept rather then a finished game for instance once the Ai has knights it spams them making it almost impossible to do a normal attack and in most cases ruins the game I think this could be fixed with toning down the aggressiveness of the Ai or just putting a hard cap on how many knights you can have at any single time. The research could also use some work some of it still confuses me if I haven’t played in a while. Overall not the best game but I will continue to enjoy it I hope to see more updates in the future!
Looks great, lacks the depth of Polytopia
I want to give Hexonia 5 stars. It looks like a real winner. But spend some time with the game and you will see that it is missing the important balance and synergy elements that made Polytopia so good. For example, if you research boats, every unit can sail as a ship just by moving into the water, no ports needed. Synergy buildings like windmills that must be placed by farms don’t get adjacency bonus for being by 2 or more farms. Similarly, you can’t place a windmill in one city’s borders next to another city’s farm. The maps are full of barren spaces so many towns can never get more than one or two tiers larger. And can we talk about cheese just lying on the ground in the desert? Or how the music is such a short loop that it’s more annoying than enjoyable. Sorry but I can’t go more than 3 stars here. Still feels like a beta-test to me. I want to like it but I just can’t yet in its current state.
Decent but room for improvement
So I’ve been playing this for a bit and comparing it to something close to this like Polytopia I can say that this game has a much nicer tech tree, and design. However there is few problems that bugs me and other people I’ve seen, one is that the map size is too small as you are pushed into combat very quickly, and you are focused on pumping out units faster than the other tribes which means you can’t explore much of the tech tree without getting slaughtered. The next problem is that why is Higher difficulties give the enemies more coin income? A better option to replace this with is smarter A.I or give them extra start coins. Without that it leads to enemies stacking 10+ units within 5 turns and it gets annoying (Happens mostly every game). I’ll end my review here as it probably was boring to read
Very fun
Very fun game. Simple but engaging, and encourages strategy and planning. The full experience however, is locked behind DLCs. The most you can do is play a medium map against 2 other tribes. Make me pay upfront for the full game instead of hiding it behind DLCs where I can’t trust that I’ll be able to get future content updates without purchasing more. The way the content is locked makes my future experience with the game feel insecure. Civ V is a similar game (albeit much more expansive and in-depth), and it charges for DLC that simply unlock more civilizations you can play as. It doesn’t lock difficulty levels and map sizes behind these DLCs. It is a complete experience you can trust when you purchase the game. Again, I’d rather pay upfront for the whole game experience, and THEN be able to unlock tribes if I want to. It’s a shame because this game is such a nice game to just be able to pull out and play a bit, then resume later (or finish if you have the time). I’d still recommend trying it out just for the bit of fun you can have before you hit the content wall. Who knows, maybe you’ll feel differently and end up buying more tribes.
WAS a great game until latest update
I like this game a lot! I came from Polytopia (also a great game) and thought Hexonia had some good features that set it apart. I happily paid for each tribe as it came out and really enjoyed the gameplay. But, like seemingly every app, in an attempt to be perceived as ‘advancing’ the developers have embraced the ideology of it’s not done until it’s overdone. Before the last update you could simply pay, with undisguised real currency, for any tribe you wanted. Simple. Done. Now, you are REQUIRED to have a Game Center account and to be logged into it to buy new tribes. And, you can only purchase new tribes with some quantity of virtual gems which can be purchased with real money. And, for good wallet-wringing measure, they’ve added stand-alone specialty characters that can game your advantage for the amorphous cost of more gems instead of a clearly expressed amount of money. Good game. Crummy capitalization model. What a shame.
