Love it!
Admittedly, I was a little hesitant to try the game after reading the reviews about the controls, but honestly, the controls are very smooth once you’re used to them. I have found that flicking the controls in a direction is much better for movement and especially combat, as opposed to holding my thumb down and moving it. The game is beautiful, the sounds are satisfying, and I was relieved to see that purchasing the entire game was only $6, which is a small price for such an incredible work. I am excited to finish the game, and I look forward to more from the developers! So if you’re hesitant to try the game, just give it a bit of time and practice, and I’m sure you’ll love it just like I do!
Amazingly Simple!
This is a nice fun take on an RPG! I love the simplicity in the controls and the resource system. Instead of having to grind a single level/enemy for levels and loot you get simple resources scattered across levels, and can buy them as bonuses near the end too! The way you collect different kinds of weapons is really nice as well! Instead of getting lucky and killing a boss over and over again for a weapon you want, or going through a level over and over getting items you don’t want, it’s instead as simple as inserting a key and facing off against some hordes of enemies for weapon blueprints! Love the game, cant wait for more to come!
Only about ~5 mins in...
So far, this game is fun. Love the animation, story is cute. Appears to have a lot to be coming up- story wise as long as potential power ups (maybe?). Again, I’m only minutes into this game, but so far, it has truly captured my interest, and I plan on purchasing the full version once I get there. Lastly, the fact that the devs give you a nice headsup that we are welcomed to the first 45mins of the game from the getgo, that was awesome- instead of diving into it for almost an hour and then being surprised that you have to pay for the rest, nicely done devs, that is much appreciated.
Freezing
As much as I have enjoyed the few minutes of gameplay I got in, I can’t even finish the free 45-minutes because the game keeps freezing. The music will continue just fine, but nothing moves, even after waiting for a few minutes. I would love to finish the game, the paid 5+ hours included, but don’t want to pay for it if I can’t even progress to it, or finish it. Edit: Freezing has stopped, not sure of the cause, but develops were quick to reply to my email and I’ve been able to progress in the game
Super fun game, excellent pay model!
Don’t listen to all these entitled brats that are complaining that the whole game was not free, I mean come on you little twits! The try before you buy model the developers have presented is perfect, and the game is super charming! The attention to detail is great and the developers are listening to the feedback and making things even better. I’ve made it to the final shard and the final battle is intense! I’d gladly pay more for such an immersive game. Good job Northplay!👍
Unintentional fun
I play through the free version and liked the game but I don’t like the controls and how the camera moves with it. I went to the in games store and after finding out that collision was on for some objects I spent maybe 30 minutes messing around. At one point even trying to get one of the gnomes in the apple bowl. I would love to see more games with collision on, it just so fun.
Great visuals and story, but needs improvements
Northplay is a great indie studio and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed their last games. This one reminds me a lot of Zelda when it comes to story and visuals, great to see something like this on iOS. However I was very disappointed that this is only playable in portrait mode on iPad. The touch controls definitely leave something to be desired as well. I would also love to play this sitting in front of a TV with a controller, either through Apple TV or Nintendo Switch.
I’m having a fun time playing
Aside from the player movement feeling a little clunky at times, there’s still a great game here. I’ve only played for about 20 minutes, but it’s addicting!
I like it but I’m disappointed
So I am one of the people that pre ordered this game. I was very excited to see that it had downloaded after the wait. When I play I noticed that I would only get 45 minutes of game play and had to pay 5.99 for the full 5 hours. You’ve said you’ve spent years on this game but I understand you simply just trying to make money. But a lot of other people are also disappointed with how this turned out to be, seeing how the trailer was very nicely made but the character graphics in the game were nothing near that. When I had noticed I had to pay 5.99 for the full gameplay I was also disappointed because 5 hours doesn’t seem that long do to the amount of money I have to pay just to play a game I’ve been longing for. I thought it was a good idea to give people who had pre ordered the game the full gameplay or at least a better advantage at gameplay but this game turned out very disappointing. I was honestly more excited when Sky: Children of the Light came out because it has more to it than just 45 minutes of playing.
Plenty of fun but...
I’m so happy Headland has came out! I pre-ordered it and looked forward to playing it. I played the “45 minutes” of free gameplay and went ahead and bought the full game. There’s a few things that need to be brought to someone’s attention though... First, Combat. The combat in the game is incredibly annoying. Playing this game on phone is very difficult. Playing with one hand means you cannot attack and move at the same time. Playing with two hands makes it strenuous to attack as well because sometimes Nor will move instead of attack, attack instead of move, or completely miss the enemy. The combat is finicky, thats all on that. Second, the shards. If you collect the last shard, you’re able to just go ahead and fight the last boss no matter how many shards you’re missing. Convenient for the player, but still isn’t correct. It is a very fun game but sometimes things like the combat takes some of the fun away. Only some.
Such potential ruined by bad controls
The game looks good, sounds good, and has potential. That alone equates to a 2.5 star game. Unfortunately, I have to remove 2.5 stars for such poor controls, lack of control options, and for portrait only mode. IMHO, there’s just no excuse these days for poor controls. None. And I was really looking forward to playing too. Hopefully, there will be an update soon and I’ll revisit the game to update my review as well. And there will be an update to the controls, because I promise the reviews will come in droves.
Cute game, wonky controls
Really like the game style, looks like it has potential to be really fun. However the controls are killing me, like literally! They just aren’t accurate or precise enough. I don’t particularly like not having an action button or at least the option of D- pad movement especially when the touch controls feel so unpolished. Maybe the controls will grow on me after I play a bit more ....
Not bad, but could be better
The game is pretty good. I like the concept and everything except for these little things. 1. The controls on the game are so bad. It is very hard to move in a certain direction without moving to far or going in a different direction altogether 2. The game lags. Idk if it was something to do with my device but I doubt because it is new. But the game will freeze for like 20 seconds before going back to normal. 3. If it freezing wasn’t enough, it crashes as well. It has crashed multiple times when I have tried to play this game. Other than all of those things, it is a good game. But, it could use a lot of improvement.
Disappointed
So I pre-ordered this game excited for its release then I just open the game and I see that I only get 45 minutes of play for free. I understand if you need more money but just put in app purchases that’s what therefore to make money. I shouldn’t have to only play for 45 minutes turn out to like the game and then I have to suffer because I can’t play a game that I like even more. If you put your heart into it for years then maybe you would respect the fact the people are really going to want to play the game for free. You can put in app purchases and make it to where they’re ads every once in a while. Extremely disappointed with this game was looking forward to it, all to be disappointed be disappointed
