    Jade awesomeness:special edition

Hello the Jade empire: special edition, okay I owned this game for the Xbox way back when. Anyone who doubts this is the game STOP. This is it! I like the touch screen controls, at first I was concerned but ounce I began playing the controls are very much like the OG controls from the xbox. The graphics are somehow look better on the iPhone and the sound, combat, it’s all great. With that said, walking around I found was a little bit of a challenge. You walk straight just fine, but walking and turning can be a bit sticky. But that’s the only problem so far I found. All dialogue box’s are nice and big you can easily scroll through and choose the answer you want. The game isn’t super hard, but it isn’t easy ether. And the fact I haven’t seen one ad is super cool too. For $10 I mean may sound like a lot but but in the day they charged $50+ so you’re getting the whole game for $10. That’s a great deal. The Jade empire is a true masterpiece.

Great "wuxia" RPG good MFI controller support

First, to correct a previous reviewer's comment: the iOS version does support the "area attack" through a MFI game controller. You just have to hit both power attack and quick attack buttons together. This was definitely confusing since it's not listed in the controller diagram in the game menu. Area attack is vital since it pushes clumps of enemies away. Besides that this is a classic Bioware RPG. The combat is definitely real-time relative to say KotOR but is basically positioning and rock-paper-scissors. It does get pretty awkward on touch which is why I bought a steelseries Bluetooth controller which has worked well so far in a day of play. The voice acting is generally very good. The plot and humor are rather cliched but nevertheless fun.

    YES! and no :(

Yes yes yesssssssss I have been waiting forever to play Jade Empire again. Everything is the same which is perfect. The only downside to being ported means that the controls are not as good. Especially when you're playing on an older iPhone 6s. My screen is generally big enough to play games but here the controls don't let me block, jump, attack properly. I'm getting my but kicked by some random thugs when I should be showing them my closed fist and punching through mountains instead. I want to finish this game bc it is probably my #1 game tied with Mass Effect, but the controls cause me to die so easily it's infuriating. I'll see if lowering the difficulty will help me.

Bioware make sequel and people buy this

I played Jade Empire constantly as a kid on my original xbox. I have played this games more times through then any other game i have EVER owned. I long for the day Bioware decides to make a sequel for this amazing series they really need to. Spend the 10 dollars and buy this game it plays just like the actual xbox and it takes me back every time I play it. I still have my xbox special edition disc i love this game so much i bought it twice. I also hoped Bioware would notice sales for this beautiful app and see they need to make a sequel also. Do your self a favor buy this.

    I removed 30fps cap!

I backed up my iphone 8+ to my computer using itunes. Then i used iexplorer to navigate to the apps-jadeempire folder. Found the config file. Right clicked and clicked something like “bring me to source file” which highlighted a strange file with tons of letters. Luckily i could open this file in windows10 notepad. You could see all the advanced graphic settings. I edited “clampfps 1” to “clamp fps 0” and saved. Then i plugged phone into pc again and restored latest backup on my iphone. It worked! It takes some work but The fps is now buttery smooth and no longer capped at 30fps!

    Epic

I don’t write a lot of reviews but just had to for this amazing game. It’s truly epic. I’ve been playing it for months now and I’m just now nearing the end, sad to say. The story line is super deep and multi faceted. Gameplay is very smooth. Characters that you interact with are unique and full of personality. If you are a fan of this sort of game where you start out on your little island and then head out into the big world while you gain experience and the storyline unfolds before you then this is a must have. This game is leaps and bounds beyond other games of this genre. A+

    One of the BEST

If you are looking for an amazing action RPG from the makers of Mass Effect and KOTOR then you have found it. This game is spectacular and I have loved it since it's initial release on Xbox and PC. I am extremely grateful that Aspyr has kept it up to date and hope to see more amazing titles from them in the future for iOS. KOTOR 2 with Restored Content would be a really amazing gift for us to buy up if you ever decide to Port it. Thanks again Aspyr, we appreciate all your hard work.

    An under appreciated gem

As a lover of both RPG games and Martial arts alike this game has always been a favorite of mine. It has a compelling narrative, a surprisingly well done combat system, and plenty of interesting mechanics and locations to keep you on your toes. Once I saw this available on the App Store I just knew I had to have it. I just wish this game got the KOTOR treatment and received an update for iPhone X to take advantage of that bigger display. Fingers crossed

    Great Game; Clumsy Controls

Jade Empire is a classic game and the iOS port is very good, but the game is borderline ruined by trying to play it with touch controls. This isn’t so much the developer’s fault as the fast-paced action combat which feels extremely sloppy on touch. You’ll spend more time fighting the controls trying to get your character to do what you want than beating up enemies. I’d skip JE on iOS unless you have a controller.

    The. G-d. D—m. Camera.

The auto targeting in this game is a complete mess. In any fight with more than one or two opponents it switches around constantly, jumping from one target to the next like a rodent on meth. Which leaves your character spinning in place like a top and unable to finish anyone off. The camera can’t handle confined spaces. Whenever you’re in a wall or corner it zooms out so you can’t see your character anymore, making it impossible to fight. Oh yeah, and you are constantly fighting large groups in enclosed spaces. Love the ideas and ambition, but you’ll spend more time fighting the controls than the enemy ninjas.

Combat controls ruin an otherwise interesting game.

I never played the console or PC version of the game, but was a big fan of KOTOR as well as the mobile port of it (highly recommend) so figured I’d give this a shot when I heard it was from the same developers. There are some similarities, but the thing that made KOTOR shine on the mobile port, the nicely animated but essentially turn-based-dice-roll combat system is not here. Instead it’s a fairly fast paced reactive combat system that simply doesn’t work well on mobile. I switched the difficulty to easy to get through the first section of the game with less frustration but between the annoying “lock-on” targeting system that switches between enemies seemingly randomly and then doesn’t allow you to move freely and the general clunky layout of the controls, I was more frustrated than entertained after about an hour of gameplay. It’s especially disappointing because the story telling and character leveling system seemed fairly interesting and unique and made me want to progress further. Just not worth the terrible controls. Don’t waste $10 like I did. If you haven’t played KOTOR, go buy it, even if you aren’t a big Star Wars fan, it’s a great game. If you have played it and are looking for more, I think you’re out of luck. It seems unlikely a KOTOR 2 port is coming at this point, and Jade Empire falls painfully short.

Loved the original game but poor coding makes the game difficult to play

Originally I loved this game, but as you play you start to find things that really are so irritating. First off while fighting, your target moves CONSTANTLY, it’s such a pain as you fight an enemy and almost kill him and then it automatically changes your target. Or even better is when it is constantly changing your opponent and you are fighting round and round in circles. You can’t control like on a gaming console which is what you have to expect when using touch screen devices instead of buttons on a controller, but they should have realized this when programming the game. It’s like they just tried to throw this in the market as fast as possible and didn’t even think to fix certain game play aspects. I know the Star Wars: Knights of the old republic had aspects of that game that made it transition easier to a touch screen experience but some of those options should have been brought in to this, or just a whole other outcome... I’m furious because it just makes the game intolerable... no wonder it had such a low rating on the google play store... should be the same here.

Not really playable on iPhone X

This game seems really cool content-wise, but it is not compatible with my phone. Whenever I try to load a quick save after leaving and reentering the app, the game crashes and I have to return to an earlier save. I’ve contacted Aspyr support and they just told me to turn my phone off and on again (doesn’t help) and then contact Apple support. In addition, the camera makes it really difficult to see what’s going on; the low close angle means I have no idea what’s going on behind me, whether there are enemies or barriers there, etc. The controls are mushy: there’s a half-second lag between input and execution which makes it feel like I’m shouting commands at my character instead of being her. In combat, there is no way to switch what target I’m focusing on. I have to fight the target the game selected for me across the field instead of the one in front of me about to stab me. I hope BioWare plans to fix these issues, but if not I am gonna need a refund because I can’t deal with losing my save file and crashing every time I exit the app.

    Typical Aspyr rip-off

The controls are horrible, especially on the iPhone. Load times are bad also and it is clear they ported the game without any quality assurance, the same way they did with KOTOR. Good thing I took advantage of the $.99 deal. Update: The quick save crashes all the time to the desktop - still another example of why Aspyr is a fraud company. I have emailed them prior about KOTOR's flaws and they blew me off saying it was my device even though I had friends running into the same issue and it kept happening on multiple devices. Apple should ban them from making games for IOS. "Elegant touch controls???" What a crock of turds! Worst controls ever! Seriously! Fighting and the game makes me change opponents against my will? How many times have I died because of that? Seriously, whoever wrote the controls for this game and the inability to skip repeated cut-scenes should be fired - this is our consumer fraud. Seriously, the person who approved his game as is should be slapped. You have got to be kidding me! Over a year and the quick save still crashes to the desktop? Aspyr you guys are idiots!
