Great. Just Great.
So... This. game. Is. Great!! But some tweaks, and a really large change, will work. First of all.. *Holds souls and ectoplasm* I’d like to have us.. not spend actual money on costumes. Can you make it so that I could use something like ectoplasm, or souls (both of these are collectible items obtained by defeating enemies) to purchase things that would normally cost real money? I’d just buy the launch sale, really! Oh... and the witch costume. Maybe. But something else that I want would be the bigger change- Candy shop! If you have beaten curse crusher than you must have seen the clip of Molli and Goober in the candy shop. I want us to have some place to make candies, then use them in the mansion! Imagine how funny it would be to feed a Pyromancer some Cinnamon Skull hard candies. 😆 *Okay, I’ve made the review shorter.* (Note! I am aware, it may make your game a poor business if you remove all in-app Purchases. For the sake of the devs getting money, you can keep in app purchases such as No Ads. Thank You!*)
Really entertaining and challenging but.....
This enticing and challenging game has had me playing it over hours and hours. The story has a quirky and define shape throughout the game. I enjoy the animation and general aesthetic that emanates from the art style and gameplay. The games levels of difficulty inspire me to work harder to get more upgrades and get better weaponry. The extra quests and interaction between characters add to the depth. But one thing kind of bums me out was the expectation that there will be more modes and levels to fuel my love for this but it ended so prematurely and how it was kind of short sparked a kind of sadness that I wanted to try to resolve because this game seems simple but I enjoyed it and I would love there to be more for me and others. I highly recommend this game among a lot of games on my phone.
Reeeeallly gooodd :)
Love this game, my friends saw me playing it on the bus, and now they love this game, too. I'd say my mare gets issue with the game is bugs but most of them were fixed in this latest update. Although I do have a few suggestions (I don't know where to leave them so I guess i'll just leave them in this review) -buff curses, I often have no reason to pick any of them up, simply because there'll be candies that are literally just better in every way (especially the undead curse, because if you have enough hearts, it puts you in a WORSE position) -add a way to track NPC quests -add some way so you can find out which enemies are which! I often find myself with a quest that requires me to kill a number of some type of enemy, yet I never have an idea which enemy it is.
This game is no trick!
Honestly, this is one of my favorite games the App Store has to offer. There’s so much packed in this game, like various weapons and charms that change your play style, the like-able NPCs with their stories to tell, and different enemies and bosses with attack patterns to memorize. There are ads present, but are very unobtrusive, appearing every few levels. If there is one thing I’d have to complain about, it would be that my game crashes after an ad would open when I try going into the final level. I’m not sure how new this glitch is since I only recently started getting to that point in the game, but it happens every time and I can’t avoid it. Other than that, though, this game is a treat on the App Store, one that you should definitely taste.
Really fun way to pass some time!!
Alright so I’ve admittedly been waiting for this cute pixel game to drop and was super excited when it finally did! First of all, the music is super fitting with the theme of the game. It was one of the few mobile games that I didn’t feel the need to immediately mute. The way the pixels are done are superb. Honestly I love the outline around the ghosts and creatures that make it look sticker like, I just really enjoy that? Plus the storyline scenes remind me of old school stuff and I really enjoyed that feel of nostalgia while playing. The controls are fairly simple, I struggled at first but only because of my own inability to comprehend, it’s pretty straight forward and easy to handle once you get the hang of it but don’t let my words deter you. The games bosses and such can be a bit challenging, leaving you to have to level up some more and keep coming back. Took me a few tries to get the first boss which is awesome that I can’t just easily grind through levels. All in all, it’s a simple app with beautiful detail and a whole lot of charm!!! I’m glad I waited for this!! Thank you for the new time eater!!
Wonders
I fell in love with this game since day one on release. This is a wonderful 2D platformer now a days. Great time spender, no regrets for me. Retro graphics are awesome. There’s a whole range of improvement for Candy n’ Curses! Which is amazing by itself, there’s some bugs n’ glitches here and there, but it ain’t all bad. I’m currently lvl 32 and don’t quite have the items I should have for having the requirements on some trinkets that are on the in game store. Anyway I recommend this game to everyone no matter how old you are!? You gotta play till the end. Some useful ideas I got is that there should be events for special circumstances in game, but it’s an idea? Well great awesome game and love the work put into this!!!
Addicting
This game is great! I’ve been playing it non-stop ever since I got it. I’m not a person that typically buys stuff in-game, but I purchased the “ads free” and even some of the costumes. The “ads free” is ACTUALLY FREE! Most games will still make you watch ads to stay alive...not this one! This most annoying thing I’ve come across is not being able to make it past the phantom worm. One more thing, when you play a game and you die; it comes up showing how to play the game and what the buttons mean...I’m not sure if you can turn this off somehow, but it’s quite aggravating after seeing it multiple times. That being said- it’s a great game and I recommend it!
I’m surprised...
I very rarely try new app games, but this one caught my attention. When I do end up downloading a new game, I usually play it for a day or two, then delete it, since they can’t seem to keep me glued to it. This game, Candies n’ Curses is one of the few games that has kept me playing for more than a week in a very long time. This game was so good, I decided to do an in-app purchase, which is the very first time I have ever did an in-app purchase for a phone game, but I felt this game deserved it. I hope to see more great things from this, like seasonal events or even new characters to play as. (At the very least make Molli customizable with different clothes and hair styles)
Just amazing
This game, is just amazing! The art style, the music, the game, everything in it is just too good and smooth. Combat is super satisfying too, and each of the weapons have their own skill gap, although I feel swords are a bit too strong and lanterns are kinda lacking. But overall a superb game, the only two things I would like to see in this game is an infinite mansion mode where you gotta survive as long as possible, and of course it gets harder the further you are. Second, multiplayer, I know that this game isn’t meant for multiplayer, but I can imagine how much fun this game would be just playing with a second person, heck even if it was local play.
Adorable but difficult!
I love everything about this game, from the cute pixel graphics to the plot-progressing NPC dialogue! However, don't let the sugary exterior fool you; gameplay is very difficult. If you get easily overwhelmed or frustrated, I wouldn't recommend trying this one out. It takes a lot of grinding to get the tools you need to even progress past the second level, and you have to play the entire game with only 1-2 lives on average (and a limited amount of health). Level progress doesn't get saved which means you have to get through old-school style, all in one sitting. However, I think it's worth the challenge!
Amazing game! But something is off
So the game is absolutely amazing and very addicting, I applaud the developers of this to make a fun and engaging game without filling it up with ads. I also love that the developers made it so that if you purchase to remove ads, it removes all ads and gives you the benefits as if you watched them! That is rather interesting and neat, however there’s one major problem with this, with two purchases rather. The soul quadrupler and the remove ads. So if you were to get say, 1000 souls, the soul quadrupler would give you 4000 souls yea. And if you were to watch an ad to double that((or get it automatically from the ad free purchase)), that should reasonably be 8000 souls right? Well the problem that isn’t stated anywhere is that it doesn’t care about the x2 from watching an ad ((or by getting it automatically from the ad free purchase)), what it does, is it takes the x2 and applies that correctly yes, but instead of having that total being multiplied by x4, it multiplies the base value you get before receiving any multiplicative bonus. To me, this honestly feels like a big oversight because it should be a x8 and not just a x4, if the developers could get back to me on this, that would be amazing.
Great game but Crashes!
I really enjoy this game and have had no major issues throughout playing it until recently! The story is interesting and the gameplay is intense! The artwork is just stunning for a free app and the ads are implemented in a way that doesn’t ruin the immersion! The only issue is, as I get further and further into the game it seems to crash at random points, which is a problem because there is no progress save. To some degree I can guess the reasoning, for example a common crash I have is on the third room, if I’m on the bottom layer as the water layer rises the game will crash. If there was a way the game could have a save file or something as such, it would pretty much solve this issue. This game is still a BLAST, you just gotta be patient with the crashes.
I would give it 5 stars, but....
So this is an excellent game. The story is intriguing and the gameplay is simple, yet still challenging. The musical score is great as well. I love the throw back to old school 8-bit design. The only thing holding me back is the ads. Not even that there are ads, I am fine with a game supplementing it’s income with ads. That’s normal. What I have an issue with is that on more than one occasion an ad has locked my game down because there is no way to exit out of it. The “close” symbol is missing and nothing I click on gets me back to the game. I have to always shut down and relaunch the game, resulting in me losing my progress. I don’t know if it’s your ad program, or if it’s the specific ad I am having issues with (Happy Color, if that makes any difference.) If this specific problem were fixed, I’d easily give it a 5.
Love the game, but crashes a lot
Anything I might say about this game would just echo the hundreds of 5-star reviews. The art, gameplay, music, and style are all amazing. I love this game. My one issue was that the game would occasionally crash after prolonged play, usually after completing several runs. But then I updated the app to the new expansion, and now it crashes within minutes, if not seconds of opening. I updated my operating system with no changes. I’m on an iPhone 6, but the previous version ran well enough, I can’t tell why it would be worse now. Any solution that could be offered would be great; I would love to give this game the 5 stars it deserves and continue playing without interruption. Update: After week’s of waiting, the latest update 2.1.1.6, is finally available, but the issue has not been resolved. If anything it’s worse, and I can’t even make it past the flashlight selection screen without crashing.
