How does it Work?

Punishing: Gray Raven is a fast-paced ultra-stylish Action-RPG.

Mankind is almost extinct. Earth has been conquered by a robotic army—the Corrupted—twisted and warped by a biomechanical virus known as The Punishing. The last survivors have fled into orbit, aboard the space station Babylonia. After years of preparation, the Gray Raven special forces unit leads the mission to reclaim their lost homeworld. You are their leader.

As commandant of the Gray Raven unit, you are tasked with assembling the greatest cyborg soldiers the world has known and lead them into battle. Unravel the dark truths behind the Punishing virus, push back the Corrupted and reclaim the Earth in this stylish Action-RPG.

LIGHTNING-FAST COMBAT ACTION

Immerse yourself in stylish, high-speed combat action. Directly control your squad members in real-time 3D battles, tag between your squad members mid-fight, master each character’s special moves. Parry, dodge, and pin enemies down with rapid combos then crush your foes with your strongest techniques via an easy-to-use match-3 ability system.

A POST-APOCALYPTIC SCI-FI EPIC

Dive deep into a ruined world, and uncover the truths behind this dark cyberpunk setting. Featuring dozens of chapters of visual novel-style storytelling, this is a bleakly beautiful world with many wonders to behold. The daring might even unlock hidden chapters, letting you experience the story from a much darker perspective.

EXPLORE A RUINED WORLD

Explore through a wide range of stunning environments, from abandoned city streets to desert warzones, towering megastructures, and abstract virtual realms. Take the battle against the Corrupted to harsh polar battlefields and even beyond Earth’s gravity in a continually expanding cinematic story.

STUNNING POST-HUMAN STYLE

Mere flesh and blood aren’t enough to battle the Punishing, so the soldiers have become something more. Known as Constructs, they are human minds encased in powerful mechanical bodies. Recruit dozens of these living weapons to battle against hundreds of enemy types, all richly detailed and animated in full 3D.

AN AUDITORY ASSAULT

Dance across the battlefield in a symphony of destruction, accompanied by the pulsing beats of the stunning soundtrack. From ambient, atmospheric tracks to pounding drum & bass, Punishing: Gray Raven is as much a treat for the ears as the eyes.

    Addicting gameplay and visuals

This game is incredibly fun, with the combat and dodging requiring you to fight with skill and to take the time to learn each characters’ optimal combo sequences. Visually the character designs are very cool, and the whole atmosphere is a plus for anyone that loves sci-fi and post-apocalyptic settings, with the music also setting the tone of the game nicely. Contrary to what a lot of the reviews are saying during this review bombing, it’s actually a very F2P friendly game and you can clear content with just the starter characters, but also you get more than enough in-game currency every day/week to be able to save for the characters you want (pity is also quite low in the game for both the characters and weapons). I think a lot of the people complaining about events that require grinding a bit each day and using a bit of the in-game currency (that you can accumulate for free), just haven’t played enough gachas. This game is very generous, and the story and vision is just too bright for someone to miss out on it! If you’re worried about things you’ve read from other reviews, give the game a shot. I went in not knowing a thing about the game but I already enjoy it so much and want to see more of the story (also if you’re a fan of Nier: Automata check out a future collab the game has! I for one am looking very forward to that)

Been waiting a year, worth the wait

This game is my new Honkai impact, I used to like Honkai impact but it’s story was confusing and nothing really attracted me to it, but this game has one of the best graphics I have seen compared to genshin impact, and gameplay is super fluid once you get the hang of it, on of the things I kind of dislike is the amount of things flashing at you, and the buttons on the home page, almost like Honkai but this time actually know where things are, the game is SUPER free to play friendly, you could do about 4 1:00-2:00 minute battle and you would get enough to get a supply drop, and only 10 supply drops get you a S or A ranker, plus even the starter characters are super powerful, another down side is with leveling up.. sometimes a level could be super hard and you don’t have anything to level yourself up.. your just stuck with under leveled characters until you find a way to get yourself up to a certain level where the level is actually playable (unless you gphave super ultra godly dodging skills, ignore that) but for now this is coming from a new player and I’m level 30 for commander level, I don’t usually write stuff this long but I felt like it deserved it, thank you for reading.

    Pretty fun

Now this game reminds me of Honkai but with Ig a little bit nicer odds in its gatcha system though knowing that it already hit top 10 on the App Store in multiple regions I do think the rewards of just 1000 cards was a bit underwhelming. Normally hitting such a big goal and having so many downloads yet that’s basically all we got. I mean sure we got a skin for starting Lucia but it’s starting Lucia. Most starting characters gets dropped immediately once a better version or other higher ranked characters are out. It’s all fun and good but I really do think the rewards for such big feat is really underwhelming. I’m sure the fan base surely should’ve gotten a bit more, I hope I’m not acting like it’s not enough but it really is how I feel. Normally other games would’ve given such a grandiose amounts of rewards or like free multi summons.

    Good but…

So this game seems fantastic, with its very good music, voice acting, graphics and frame rate…but doesn’t it seem the same to you? To me it felt like another Genshin/Honkai Impact clone 🙄 For starters it’s hard to re-roll because to summon you have to finish 12 stages in a chapter and THEN you can summon. Multis are 2500 tickets which is way too much unless stages give you 5-300 per. Didn’t see controller support, so instant carple tunnel with all these movements, I’d much rather prefer just the tap and click games. Games like these need auto or just be better for consoles or PC. I’m just getting horror flash backs of my Honkai days. If you never played the latter 2 games and this is your first, it’s not a bad game, just nothing that blew me away. Oh and character designs…THIS is where I’m like yeah…Genshin clone, cute at best…nothing like whoa time to whale for this unit! 👀 Nope no eye candy just yeah they’re cute/cool and that’s it. We’ll see how far this game goes, but I feel it’ll be left in the dust behind other games.

Great Game, but Wait To Spend

I downloaded this game on launch and I’ve been having a bunch of fun. Obvious similarities to Honkai, but if you’re looking for a darker more serious story and aesthetic this would be the alternative option. Characters look great and the gameplay is very smooth except some lag in coop. Welcome rewards and the launch rewards give you a lot of currency to work with, the only hesitancy would be for $$$ spenders to just wait it out a bit longer and watch how the devs treat the game. There’s been some controversy already over non-consumer friendly treatment of the global servers and it’d be smart to watch over the next month for whales and dolphins to see if they really want to start putting money in and what the future looks like. For now F2P or monthly pass buyers can probably still make it to to pity for the next event banner so come and join, it’s really fun!

    An Honest Review

This game is pretty good which is why I’m giving it 4, not 5 starts. The story is good graphics are good and voice acting is good. The problem actually comes to the entitlement of the players. There are 15 heros in the game and people are complaining about it being hard to reroll? If you preregistered the game you were given a selection of 5 different S ranks, after that you play a little bit of the game and you can do at least 2 more multi-summons, then on top of that there is a pity summon after multi-summoning 4 times to get you another S rank. If you need to reroll at that point it’s not the character that’s holding you back it’s just you being bad. All characters are playable stop complaining that you didn’t get the exact one after 4 summons and build the hero you have.

    Good but

Overal the game is good! It’s real time combat but not in a way that’s overwhelming so different types of players can play, the characters and story are nice, only issues I have are 1) accessibility because visually some text in loading screens and the like are far too small for people to read without straining. 2) Lack of Autoclear on stages such as the resource one, which would save players some time. As a game I understand it would be good to have players play it often yet at the same time, having to do it one by one for resources can be draining to many players as well.

So we have a clone of Honkai Impact

Honestly, game is fun and all - but I noticed a lot of similar vibes to Honkai Impact and it bothered me a little bit. So let’s start with bad: a lot of unnecessary grind for your leveling of the characters, but the missions do not force you to have all your characters on the same level, just you need to be good enough for completing it. Gameplay feels weird - I played it and got a feeling after completing 5 chapters that each mission feels the same to me (except for the part with where you can play as a villain of the chapter) Now for the good parts - I enjoy interactions with characters, something that a lot of games need these days to actually form a bond with the ones you command. How I mentioned before: story progression is good (you can use low level heroes to win higher level maps, but you do need to be mindful of your team composition - while the game does provide a good rooster) Variety of different equipments that can be put on your characters to either bring out their best stats even further or fill the holes necessary for their 200% performance boost. Now to summarize everything with a suggestion to the developers: fix your stamina system (make it more allowable for players to spend more time playing instead of waiting for hours for stamina to replenish) and make gameplay a little bit more diverse and engaging. Overall mark is 3 out of 5 for me. A lot of work still needs to be done!

    Beauty badly handled

PGR is a game I’ve looked forward to for quite some time. The gameplay is great and top notch for mobile. The reason for the low rating is the other critical component to games that provides long-term value: the live service. The game is still early, but there are some serious red flags around service quality and the treatment of players that seems to raise some concerns around long-term investment here. The cost of premium currency is significantly different (increased) in the global version from the previous two releases and it is carved up into inapplicable values that don’t directly apply to the store. You end up having to buy more than you need. The first live-event that features a new skin as a final reward is impossible to clear without paying to acquire the event currency. When questions were raised about all these issues, the developer offered no meaningful solutions. We’re just at the beginning here, but these are not good signs. I’d hold off before overly committing to this game. If things improve I will definitely return to update this score.

Should be one star, but combat is fun

Why am I rating this game so low? Well for one, the controls aren’t optimized as they should be and it takes some time to stop mixing up the attack and dash buttons. For another, I spent several hours playing and my account just got deleted with no apparent reason. This was extremely discouraging, but it wouldn’t have been as bad if the tutorial was at least reasonable. 12 missions just to summon is 11 too many. On top of that, the power up and reward system is all over the place. This is a trend with these gaccha games, but I felt like I spent at least an hour hunting for all the reward tabs and trying to find which items to optimize. I’m sort of glad my account got deleted though. The game is uninspired, the missions too short, the menus too numerous, and the story is text based and bland. It’s meant to make you pump money into it, but the cost for just one pull is astronomical and the currency you earn in game is extremely limited. Maybe 3 pulls if you really try your hardest. Closer to 2. On top of that, the grinding missions are too short with recycled characters that aren’t fun to fight against. The combat is definitely fun though and it’s a shame they buried a fun combat system in all these gaccha game menus. As is, I can’t recommend this game. You’ll grow tired of it really quick after a few days and a few dollars missing from your bank account.

    Disappointed in the publisher

Let me preface this by saying that at the get go I held this game in positive regard - the gameplay is lots of fun, the setting is great, the characters are interesting enough - I had high hopes for PGR, but when the layers of aggressive monetization came to light, the response we received from the devs could not have been more disappointing. The global version of this game was revealed to have crafty packages to encourage overspending and continued subscription, a scheme not present in the more fairly priced cn server packages; where premium currency is concerned, our beginner rewards are half of those given to cn; our first global “event” cannot be completed without the use of premium currency. The devs responded to the outrage with what amounted to “no, we will not change what we are doing at present, please understand.” I will continue to play the game simply because the game itself is quite good - but I will not be supporting the devs through their packages because I feel like they were designed to take advantage of their global player base. Please treat all of your players equally, that’s really all there is to it.

    Reduced rewards and shop packages.

While the CN ver is known for it’s relatively f2p friendliness the Global ver seems to have left all of that back in CN. The payed packages have less items in them compare to CN. They have also introduce another layer of currency “Rainbow Card” that you have to buy before you can purchase anything else in the shop. One example of the scumminess of this is the monthly pass. On the other server you can just buy the monthly for $5 but on Global you need 30 RC. But the $4.99 RC package only gives you 28 RC and your force to buy the $5.99 package that gives 34 RC. Yes, of course you can use the extra RC for other stuff but that’s not the point. It is forcing you to pay for extra RC that you don’t need atm and who’s if you will keep playing the game months from now. Did I also mention that the 1st event in the game atm you can’t get the final few rewards and the last skin reward with out using money and buying event coins. Yup, truly scummy.

    Full of Disappointment

I was really looking forward to this game, despite the game was literally a Honkai Impact 3 clone with bunch of 02 looking characters. Some may argue that the chain combo system alone can differentiate PGR’s gameplay from HI3 but let’s be honest here, it’s 80% clone alright. But being a clone is okay as long as the game is great and the devs practice fair play among servers. Unfortunately, it failed both. Game itself can’t standout compare to HI3. Being a game developed 3 years later, that little improvements in PGR just can’t impress me at all. For doubters, go download Honkai Impact 3 and play for yourselves. I no longer play HI3 but when I played the game in 2017 for the first time, it really had me addicted to it for months. Most importantly, however, like many others have mentioned, is because the devs show no respect to global server players and just trying to be cash grab. Hey devs, you know many devs want Genshin like success and many devs can’t be Guradian Tales like generous, after all you want to make money out of the game and people get it. But treating players differently will not get you what you want because players ain’t all stupid. Trying to excuse yourself as rookie naive developer won’t solve the problem and you’d potentially lose your next VC fund if you act in that manner. Go learn from other successful developers if you lack that basic moral.
