Great way to get kids to brush their teeth!

So, after seeing this in this in Pokémon Presents, it was obvious some people thought it was a joke, and I did too for minute before seeing it on the App Store. I decided to try it out, even thought it’s aimed for kids that are, like, ten years younger than I am xD After grabbing my toothbrush and using the app for a bit, I quite enjoyed it. The graphics were cute (I do wish it was closer to the original art but I can’t really complain cause it’s pretty cute) and the menus were easy to navigate. I like the objective of catching Pokémon and unlocking stickers and caps once yinish brushing, although I do wish the brushing guide was more clear. It’s a bit hard to understand where it wants you to brush sometimes, like when it asks you to brush the inside of your teeth. I saw someone else say this, but it would be nice if it was a 3D model, although I think the current 2D is manageable. It would be nice if you could choose what type of toothbrush you have (manual or electric) since I did notice that it would say that I’m going too slow while I used my electric toothbrush. Other than that, this game is great and I’m still wondering how the developers managed to make this enjoyable even for older people than it was targeted for l me! I can see how this can help younger kids with their brushing habits and I think this is a great app. although i am still a bit confused on why we’re using master balls on weedles and rattatas-

    Really good

So i don’t need this to brush my teeth i learned that when i was three, but since my sister is at a good age demographic for it i decided to download it. I watched her play it for a day and then made an account for me, and oh jeez i love this game. It’s not like you need it to brush ur teeth, but oh god its just so satisfying when you get rewarded for something you were supposed to do anyway. And surprisingly it runs really smoothly, i almost had no problem with the camera and the pictures actually come out good. But now it’s time for the thing i wrote the review for, the art style. Oh my god i want this in an actual pokemon game. This style makes the pokemon look as dirpy as can be but it works soooooo well. Literally the only criticism i have for this game is... 1 to make there a 100% catch rate because it is marketed towards little kids and they may feel sad if they don't catch something, 2 make it so pokemon can evolve and have shinies just cause that would be sooooo cool, and 3 they should make it to where other pokemon from ur Pokédex can fight the bacteria too because i just want my dirpy arbok to take down some bacteria while i brush my gums out trying to get a mewtwo. Other than that this is a great game for all ages and i fully recommend.

    Pokémon Smile deserves more love!!

This app is a GODSEND! I’m an 18 year old with various sensory issues, and long lasting depressive episodes have meant that dental care hasn’t always been a priority in my life. Pokémon smile has made me the most consistent tooth-brushed I’ve been in years! As much as this game is for kids, I’ve also seen a great appreciation from the neurodivergent community! Pokémon is something I think a lot of us latch onto, and when self care is hard, Pokémon smile makes it fun! I think this game is super under appreciated and undervalued. That being said, I’m saddened to hear there aren’t any planned major updates! I’d love to see more of my favorite Pokémon (especially torterra) and I wish the camera section had the option to take and edit photos when I’m not brushing. The hats and stickers are so cute, but I wanna feel cute in the picture too! I know the game got a lot of backlash because of fans who were upset they weren’t getting Diamond/Pearl remakes or whatever, but honestly, this game makes a lot of people really happy, and helps so many people improve their self care. I can’t wait to hopefully see more from this app and maybe one day, Pokémon sleep!

    Amazing app!!

I'm going to preface this review by saying I'm 21, have severe ADHD, and I enjoy hoarding pokemon in games. Onto the review!! So I don't normally leave reviews on apps, but I have to for this one. I got it on a fluke thinking it'd be boring and not hold my attention, but it did. I set it for a minute at first to ease back into brushing my teeth, but now I wanna brush for hours just to catch 'em all 😂😂 On a serious note, I'm glad they don't have the typically "Male or female" option most kid games do and have the option of "Not Listed", as well as giving an option to not answer at all. I'm nonbinary and was pleasantly surprised! It didn't have any trouble picking up my movements at all, but my tooth brush is also white and neon green, so that might have a hand in it. I do wish there was an option to rename the pokemon you catch though, because I accidentally clicked off the tab without naming my Pidgey and I wanna name it Pidge, but that's my only complaint. TL;DR: Amazing app, 10/10 recommend for children or people who struggle with self care.

    Accessibility

Ok, so I have a visual impairment, so I have to be close to the screen in order to see the text. Can you guys add some sort of audio description of some sort so I know when I need to look at the camera, or if I need to move my head so it fits in the screen? The app is really good and it made me brush my teeth better than I’ve ever brushed before. Also, instead of it scanning to see if your eyes are looking at it, it should scan to see if your face is facing towards it so that way people with nystagmus can have a bit of an easier time with it as well. Tbh, I actually don’t know if it scans your eyes, but if it does the nystagmus thing would definitely be useful. I was thinking of those features being in the settings option so that way parents and teens can turn it on and off if they do or don’t need it. Either way, I’m giving this app 5 stars.

For kids and kids at heart alike

I’m 27 and due to life and the exhaustion that low level depression brings forth I often forget teeth brushing (used to have stomach issues so I’m care I needed to sip some soda so for nearly a year around age 18 I only brushed when my teeth were really gross and slipped out of the habit). Found this app because of a child in my life, she loves it and one day I decided to try. It keeps me motivated, I don’t always remember even with reminders set, or sometimes I’ll forget my phone when I go to brush but it’s there when I need it. For those with Pokémon catching issues: I use an electronic brush so I do often get the brush faster notifications, I had trouble catching my first one at the default time but you can go into settings and bump up the time from 2 mins to 3 mins and it adds the up and down brushing and I’ve never had a missed catch

    GOD HAS BLESSED US

As an angry child who doesn't want to have "oral hygiene" but wants all them Pokémons I'm more than delighted and intrigued. My sister thinks she will win the oral war but really she will collapse and black out after seeing my blindingly shiny teeth. She will cower. Oral Hygiene was never important for me. My teeth were as black as my soul browner than the most disturbing waters. More tragic than my bank account. They were as bad as they can come. But then I had the most desirable hallucination of an app like this one. Of me being happy with all the Pokémon. I was never super into Pokémon the only thing I really liked was making Curry in Pokémon Shield for the Pokémon . BUT NOW, NOW things have changed I brush like the wind tooth paste foaming from my mouth like I have rabies! Raccoons bow down to me at this point. ANYWAY my teeth are immaculate after using this fine specimen of an app. 5 s t a r s

Pokemon smile is the single greatest game on the market right now, I can literally have my squirtle on my head while I brush my teeth I still question why I got this as I am 14 but that doesn’t matter. This game actually makes me want to brush my teeth and I don’t know why, you guys should add more pokemon tho like all the starters and then maybe even some legendaries if you are super good at brushing your teeth or something. Also to the people that say your gums bled that means that you don’t brush your teeth enough it’s not the games fault. People do say that it doesn’t detect electric brushes and mine does however I do not know if the Pokémon are “impossible“ to catch because I only caught one so far, but there are not many in the game yet so they probably have to make catching something exciting by making it rare. Idk I really like this game tho

Easy for kids, hard for adults

Easy and friendly app. It has a timer (default is 2 min) that you can change between 1 min, 2 min, and 3 min. It also provides a guide of which area to brush and switches between each of the 18 sections total; 9 top teeth and 9 bottom teeth. Pro: This is definitely for kids and seems to be easier for them to catch Pokémon which encourages them to be excited for next time. My son definitely enjoys it and looks forward to brushing and to see what Pokémon he’ll encounter next. He even gets excited when it’s my turn and encourages me on how I’m doing. Con: This is only for adults. I downloaded and tested it out just to see how well it would be in case it would have possibly been not as exiting for my son. The first few days of trying, I never brushed enough to catch a Pokémon. It was still covered in darkness. I had a white brush (since it recommends against clear) in the beginning. I eventually let my son try it and he caught a Pokémon the first time. He has a bright color one and I tried again with an extra colored brush he had and I seemed to do better. Each night we brushed, he cleared the darkness easily and only a few times I was able with the rest with partial darkness. I set our birthdays so not sure if that plays an effect or cause it uses the camera, it can tell your age but as an adult, if you’re excited for this, too, you have more work cut out for you.

If you use an electric toothbrush, this might not be for you

Pros: very cute game. It's utterly charming and very child friendly. I can see kids falling in love with taking pictures with Pokemon on their heads. The diagram of teeth showing which teeth to brush on which side will definitely help avoid missing any spots. Cons: Unfortunately, the game does not like electric toothbrushes at all. It would either "not see" my brush, or it would say that I wasn't brushing fast enough. It absolutely doesn't account for the fact that an electric toothbrush does the brushing for you and you won't move your hand as much. A minor quibble is that the diagram showing where to brush also doesn't sync up with my brushes' four quadrant timer, so I was often brushing the wrong area. Conclusion: this is really going to help teach young children how to brush their teeth, and maybe it will help the stubborn ones have a little more fun. However, it only works on manual brushes.

    A nice app

This is a really nice app. It encourages brushing, has nice visuals and physically it works decently. My main problem is the actual brushing part. To catch Pokémon in this game, you must brush your teeth properly, but the game seems to pick up on it weirdly. I’ll be brushing my teeth fine, but it’ll say to “brush a little faster”, so I do, but it still pops up. This prevents me from catching any Pokemon because technically to the game, I wasn’t brushing right. With this strange issue, my concern is how this will impact children. I myself am not a child, but if this is happening with me, and it also happens to some unsuspecting kid, how’ll they feel? They’ll be trying to brush their teeth, but this malware problem could lead to the child hurting themselves. I suggest having a slider in the setting of sorts to adjust how quick someone needs to be brushing to be considered proper. This way, no one hurts themselves while brushing, and they can still catch Pokémon.

    Pretty cute!!

This game has a really cute concept and I love the style and the sound design! However, I believe that the tracking should be improved a little to make catching Pokémon and killing bacteria more effective. My li'l Charizard only shoots fireballs when I brush at a certain speed and to do so I have to apply a lot of pressure onto my toothbrush, which not only damages the bristles a lot faster, but I'm actually starting to damage my gums because of how intensely I'm brushing my teeth. That's mostly on me, but for future I think that it would be a little better to buff out the kinks of the tracking and Pokémon attacks to make the brushing experience more enjoyable. I think it would also be cool if there was a feature to change Pokémon to use to fight bacteria, and if there was an option in decorating to have blank borders to see the hats a little better in the pictures.

    Great Concept, Poor Execution

I, as a teen, am probably too old for this type of app. But I figured, “I gotta brush my teeth, may as well catch Pokémon while I’m at it” The idea is amazing! Encourage little kids to brush by catching Pokémon! However, the way this app works is less than satisfactory. I was a bit concerned when I saw that when you tap the screen to catch the Pokémon, it wasn’t a 100% catch rate. I would recommend changing this to an option in game, as some children don’t respond well to failure. If little Timmy doesn’t catch Pikachu, there might be tears and he may not want to play the game again. Also, the BRUSH FASTER mechanic doesn’t work very well. It’s caused my gums to bleed every time I use the app. Everyone brushes at their own pace. I’m a slow brusher, I like to take my time and make sure my teeth are actually clean. Sometimes I make it so the app can’t see me, so I can ACTUALLY brush my teeth. Also, the starter Pokémon you get is pretty useless. Eevee is cute, but she does nothing to help out. I was brushing really well and super fast like the app was telling me to, and none of the purple stuff was going away. Eevee was just... there. If y’all can fix the problems of the app, I will continue using it, but for now, me and my bloody mouth will pass.

Cute game, passable play, little future

This is the cutest art I’ve ever seen, which is the only thing keeping it on my phone. It’s really only useful on the 3 minute setting, which is fine because it ensures I get a good thorough brushing. However, I perfectly clean a Pokémon maybe half of the time. To be fair, I have a black toothbrush. Odd though, that on a night with my power out and candle lit lighting, I was able to get a perfect clean, but with nice lighting the app struggles to see that I’m brushing fast enough or fails to see my toothbrush altogether. As an adult it’s quite frustrating, but it’s about time for a new toothbrush so perhaps another color will work better. I love the concept of this app, and the stickers and hats are an excellent add on. However, with no plans to add future Pokémon or additional stickers or hats, the game may last me a few months if I remember to play every day, but there’s nothing past that. That isn’t surprising because it’s a completely free game, but I hope there’s enough people that request more that additional content will be added. Despite the technical errors, I really love this app. It makes brushing fun and exciting. :)
