    Unique learning

I have a lot of different Japanese apps on my phone and this app is one of my top few who help me learn. Learning in other apps do help but one is a time base along with a fun little game and you get to unlock new characters with the coins you get from learning. I have learned a lot from this and I think you would also have a good time learning with it.

Such a cool way to practice Japanese!

I only just downloaded this app 30 mins ago. I’ve been learning Japanese for around 2 years so I’ve tried a lot of different things. Most apps are structured about the same, but others are better programmed than others. Japanese Dungeon is a fun and unique way to practice your Japanese, or learn if you’re new.

    The game is amazing!

It’s a really great game. It’s fine for kids and adults, which is shocking since most games like this are not. It’s like those fun old adventures games. Really great story too! You get to have a 1,000 gold on your first day. They also have a mini game that give you gold depends on your score. All I’m saying, is that the game is really great.

Great Game to practice making connections between English and Japanese Characters

I don’t often have times where I have trouble connecting English to Japanese but I know I don’t read as fast in Japanese as I do in English. I don’t know if this app has Katakana yet but if it did that’d be amazing because that’s my main issue is Katakana

    It’s amazing practice :D

At first, I didn’t think it was gonna be fun but I gave it a try and now I’m glad I did. I get daily practice while having some fun...unlike flash cards which get really boring after a while. I’m so glad I found this. It makes Japanese learning actually fun and simple (:

    Fun but,

This is a fun way to learn hirigana but I would recommend a few changes. First would be to extend the energy bar to 10 or further since that would get you from a-i-e-u-o (also probably add n in there) to wa-we in one playing session. I would also recommend implementing something to make it stop choosing the same question twice or more. I am trying to memorize hirigana and getting ma six times in a row is rather annoying. Other than that the game looks great!

    Enjoyable

Now that the creator has added the ability to pay for a master key to continuously go into the dungeon (as opposed to having to wait a set amount of time before it refills your energy) this game is quite enjoyable. My only complaint so far, after making it through level one, is that it can be a bit repetitive at times and could perhaps do with some more complex daily challenges for more advanced players.

A unique take on educational games

I have always been someone who has watched anime, and I have only really been able to use dubs, because subs could leave out whole sentences of info, so I’ve always wanted to see which one was more accurate but I could never get around to taking Japanese classes because they were kind of boring, but this game turns it into an rpg, which allows kids and adults to better learn Japanese

Good addition to other learning apps

I found this game helpful. Most of your popular learning apps all use the same fonts for Hiragana and Katakana, the slightly stylized characters in this game were a welcome change to that. It allowed me to see what characters i know and which ones i have kinda memorized. The only thing is i wish there were an option for the music to play but cut out as the pronunciation is said.

Change the use of gems (premium currency)

Overall, this game is a good concept. It mixes learning with a simple game that works pretty well. If being able to read japanese is your main goal, this will be pretty good. The downside is that there is a premium currency that is obtained three ways. 1) Beat a level without getting any questions wrong. 2) Watch an ad, 20 per day. 3) Pay money to get gems. This isn’t a bad idea but there are only 13 levels in the first dungeon and the other dungeons require 50 gems to unlock. If they got rid of the 50 gem price for the next dungeons I would have nothing wrong with the game really. Also a minor thing but on iPhone 10 and above you cannot see the amount of coins you have in the home page as well as your score during battle. It is blocked by the iPhone’s speaker at the top of the phone.

This is but why the energy

Honestly I think this game is fun and educational like it’s a struggle because you have to learn everything but I found it lots of fun. My two least favorite things about this game is to get the other levels and is a grind and that you have a energy bar. I typically hate games with energy bars because I want to be able to have nonstop action because maybe I have a hour to play but in like 3 minutes so now I can’t do anything unless I wait that’s pretty lame so I’m just gonna play a different game. If you would kick the energy bar I would honestly play this for a good hour or so because I thinks it’s lots of fun to play a simple little game and learn.

    Great idea, needs polish

The randomization of levels makes it so I repeat the same character I definitely know many times in a row. And I have done levels where I encountered some characters 1 or even 0 times. I recommend a hand-made sequence of character distribution per level, rather than a true random distribution. Also, for anyone who knows Japanese already and wants to use this for practice, having to slog through each level to get to the characters they want to brush up on feels quite demeaning.

Hi! I play your game, “Japanese Dungeon” and really enjoy it. I think the concept behind it is great! I love that you have child-appropriate ads and would definitely recommend this to others interested in learning Japanese! The ONE downside (that I think could really improve the game) however is that even after completing “Level 1 Dungeon” you still have to pay (in-game currency) to unlock future levels (on the upside you can do the infinite dungeons!). Also, it would be great if you could use rubies/gems to upgrade the maximum amount of energy you can save up. Like 50 rubies to upgrade to a 10 energy maximum. Also, maybe you could make the battle thingy (where you hit L/R to face oncoming orcs to defeat them) somehow related to learning Japanese (にほんご). My idea, should you chose to implement this is to give, instead of L/R you have two hiragana/katakana (katakana to expand learning opportunities) characters and a sound is played representing one of the two characters when an orc appears from the side, and you face & kill the or if you picked the right one, or die if you didn’t. Again, I really like this game and think that it’s especially great because of the lack of games (that teach Japanese) that aren’t, like, memory cards, on IOS. Great job! Someone else said the opening could give a bad impression, and seeing it I thought it was gonna be a kinda lame game, but I was wrong! It was four stars but now it is a ONE STAR because there HAD TO BE a stinkin’ CHOICES AD

    Needs placement test

This is a fun way to practice vocabulary and kana, but there needs to be a placement test. I just want a less boring way to practice vocabulary that isn’t flash cards, but I’ve studied Japanese on and off for 4 yrs now. It’s boring to have to go through the basics of kana again. Not even sure if kanji are introduced tbh bc I got too bored of the A-I-U-E-O alphabet stuff LOL Also is the main character a European crusader? And he’s going to meet a Japanese princess to fall in love? ummmm interesting story premise 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 not sure I would pick that scenario/concept as a Japanese-American woman. Feels so wrong hahaha
