Great Game: Give it a chance

The reason this game doesn’t have higher reviews is due to the fact that you have to work at it. The user has to advance enough in the game to have the opportunity to buy a better board. All you need is a board that can carve, like a 4-star board(in the carving category) or better. I’ll admit that the starter surfboard they give you is subpar, but just get to level 8, save your free in-app currency, and buy a board you can shred the gnar with on those digitally-generated waves. The things I don’t understand are: (1)why do you have to restart ALL missions when you exit the app? (2) why does the 5-minute “perfect storm” feature cut off when the user exits the app(even if if you close the app for a couple seconds)? The perfect storm timer should just simply pause if you close the application so you can finish using it later, if you’re busy. Perhaps the application developers want the user to spend money (via the app-store) to regain anything that you lose when the application gets closed. Even if you establish an account in True Surf you do lose progress with missions already completed, not to be redundant, but it’s true. The surf forecast is a nice feature because it corresponds to real-time surf reports from actual locations around the world that are featured in True Surf.

A bit of nostalgia made possible by True Surf

I spent my teens into my mid 20’s surfing Maui South shore (Shaws, boat ramp, dumps, la perouse, shark pit, Lahaina harbor etc) and all over Oahu and Kauai, and have since moved to Wyoming to work as a locomotive engineer. So ya, not surfing so much these days lol. After surfing pipe this evening on true surf I got a weird taste of what I had been missing for so long. Obviously nothing beats the real thing, however, the game’s changing conditions, tonight’s color scheme of the sky and water, trade wind rippled wave faces, racing barrel sections, draining shelf’s, and excitement that came with making impossible barrels, completely took me away and back to some of the fondest memories of my life. I actually hooted out loud alone in my hotel room when I got shot out of one lol. I’m not one to write reviews but had to give a nod to this game and its makers for the bit of nostalgia True Surf brought me this evening. Mahalo and Aloha 🤙🤙🤙

Best surfing app ever. But worst updates

This app is the best mobile surfing game on the planet. It’s so realistic and fun. As a game I give it 5 stars. But I have no idea what they are thinking with the update. The recent one just fixed stuff that from a user perspective wasn’t broken. Now the “moves” are shown across the top and it stops you seeing the next wave you want to catch. The new drop in semi circle is really awkward and to small and covers the wave. The old bar was perfect. As a user here are some update that could add value: Better surf spots. Half the spots never break, like the Keramas, Huntington, Rincon etc. and even if they do get waves they are so bad. The game would encourage you to travel more if other spots were better. Add two player or some actual purpose to having friends on the app. Make the surfboards slightly more affordable. I get the game is to make money, but the clam prices to what you can actually earn are a touch off. Provide a daily notification or surf alert if a spot is about to turn Epic. Overall - it’s a killer game. In fact it’s the only game I actually play and I’ve got lots of my friends onto it. Probably why this is the first review I’ve written on a game. Keep making this game epic.

    Mobile gaming at its best

This has got to be one of the best mobile games out there. Of coarse it is pay to play, but aren’t they all? The difference is this one is worth the couple bucks a month to have unlimited travel. Everything else they offer can actually be won by playing unlike every other mobile game out there. All of the others only offer the ability to progress by picking your pockets at every turn. It is connected to Surfline forecasts so you get almost live conditions at every break they offer. The only thing they are missing are East Coast US breaks particularly the OBX. Besides that the only other reason I gave it only four stars is because I have been playing for a few years now and they still have no replay option for iOS users despite probably receiving hundreds of requests for it. Other than that if you are looking to kill some free time without completely killing your income you can’t lose by downloading this app.

Fun but could be way better!!

A fun game with sweet graphics, something that I’m pretty sure people have been waiting since Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer but the problem is that it gets boring after a while. It could add lots of features and game options to make it amazing and addictive. Here’re some of my thoughts and ideas: - Instead of XP, create small missions to advance levels and/or unlock spots (ex: ride a 6 seconds barrels, score higher than 7, complete a full rotation air, etc). - Championship against CPU. - Cheaper and customizable clothing and boards (ex: stickers, design, maybe you could spend money to buy new fins and improve your board’s performance, etc) - Character customization (ex: name, nationality, features, etc) - Something similar to Become a Legend in FIFA would be amazing too (could even start as a QS surfer, trying to sign contracts with sponsors, etc). - Photo and film gallery. Could even partner with some musicians to create soundtrack for auto-generated short videos of your best waves. This would be an amazing thing for people to share. - The Ranch could be included as a training facility where you could learn new tricks, free surf, test and customize surfboards, etc. Well, I guess these are the ideas I thought so far. I usually don’t write reviews but I really would like to see this game skyrocketing cause I really enjoy it and feel like it has room for it and audience as well... Good luck and keep pushing it. Cheers from Brazil!

    Everything too exepnsive

The game is overall really enjoyable and I like being able to play when the surf in real life isn’t that good. However, I really dislike how expensive everything is in the game. I’ve had this game for quite a while (a few months) and am still trying to save up for an actually decent board. I have kept the starting board this entire time, but it is nearly impossible to get enough shells to buy new actually good boards. Because I have not been able to experience anything new for a while, it makes the game pretty boring. Please make everything cheaper and just let us fly to places for free and immediately. I mean I understand why in real life you have to pay to go places by this is a game. Having to pay for flights takes away or freedom to surf spots we want and clams we could be spending on already way too expensive boards.

    Potential

So I’ve been playing this game for a while now on my down time and enjoy it. the graphics are beautiful and the wave dynamics are great too. The game is a bit tricky at first but you can get the hang of it quickly. As fun as the game is I find the progression system to be a little slow the higher your rank and if you don’t have any of “clams” you can be stuck at a surf spot that could be flat. I’d like to see them add a daily system to where you can earn “clams” by doing specific task like tube ride for “x” amount of seconds, complete “x” amount of 90 or 180 degree snaps/cutbacks, and complete air forwards/reverses. Another thing I’d like to see is a competitive mode where you can go head to head against someone and earn even more clams or tickets. All in all the game is solid and would recommend adding more content to make it even better.

The wave and game is Rad, the surfer is not

Ok, so this has been my DREAM GAME, incredible work and the waves look great the scoring is fun and the live aspect is so rad. Great work, but it needs a fee crucial apects to make it actually playable and addictive like real surf. 1. The controls are not very easy, sliding up and down is just the rotation of the board and whenever you think about doing a snap or air or even just going near the lip you just sink out the back which suucks so much when you want to pull off an air. 2. Theres no drive, theres no flow with the board and you go as slow as possible even with the fast boards i feel like as if the surfer is just sitting there on his/her back foot intentionally slowing the momentum sinking into the wave 3. Barreling, the tube is beautiful, the gracefulness of the ride, is not. Youll pull in and right as you think youre gonna make it out your surfer falls, bails, hits the tube wall or something even if your dead center and off the foamball. Please i fully support this game, this is the next best thing since Kelly slaters pro surfer but for IOS, incredible work, best waves ive seen. Just please make them ridable, you guys keep it up all love from San Clemente. 🤙🏼🤙🏼 yeww

    Surfing for Barrels

The game is fun, exciting and very realistic; I have the 3/5 star review due to the results of such hard work with minimal surfing results. The contest section will show you perfect 2/3 waves with the surfer only getting barrels and not ever turning, floating or airing, cool yet to get a perfect 10 on any wave you just ride barrels. I enjoy surfing, watching surfing and playing a game of surfing; yet the rewards given to players for making the most boring ride is at fault for an over all boring game. Watching the top players surf barrels and not anything else, getting perfect 10’s is horrible surf. Honestly, if the top players were pro surfers they wouldn’t have a career. I’m not a professional gamer. Product placement is gold, boring surf is worth more and barreling every wave is the idea of a faulty game. The top 3 players have the same score, ride the same barrel; why would this be interesting at all? It’s entertaining making an exciting run on my own yet that’s a 3.0 wave because I only barreled for 4 seconds and the floater for 7, air and turns made an overall wave at 3/5... wait that’s the rating for the barrel I rode on the App Store.

    Too hard to advance/earn shells

The game play is great once you get used to the controls and the waves look amazing. Beyond that, I have some complaints. If you look at the replays from the contests, virtually all of the top scorers perform almost identical rides, including glitching at the end of the wave, bobbing up through the lip. Exploiting a glitch shouldn't be the way to win contests in a game that stresses realism in its description. Also, it takes way too long to advance in higher levels (for me it started at 17). It would be nice to see how many shakas I need to get to the next level instead of just a slowly advancing blue bar. I have earned many rides over 300 shakas, including some over 800, and I haven't even started seeing the blue bar advance yet at level 18, so it seems like I'm not earning anything. It doesn't seem like I'll ever make it to 19. It would be better if I saw 5,432/1,000,000 or something to that effect. Some other opportunities to earn shells would be great as well. The 2,000 you are awarded for leveling up gets spent fast when you have to travel for good waves.

    Beautiful waves, poor game

The modeling for the waves is beautiful, I could sit here watching them peeling off and be content without even catching any of them. Only occasionally does the wave get glitchy, folding in on itself, for the most part the physics is perfect. Unfortunately the gameplay is not so great. Entering contests is less interesting when you’re competing against hundreds of perfect 10s, all from people doing the longest barrel rides, with effectively no rewards for turns, airs, variety. No fun. Progressing is difficult due to a bug that causes shakas to stop getting counted, whenever you get several high scores in a row. Would love to see a story mode instead of competing against boring perfect 10 glitch riders. Also surfboard costs are impossibly high given how little you make for leveling up. Great wave engine, love the live surf, just fix the gameplay and rewards and you have yourself a masterpiece! Wish I could perfect storm my local break right now. 🤙

Great gameplay with a buggy backend

I really enjoyed playing this game. Feels very true to life and kept me wanting to progress. Two MAJOR problems with this app: 1. Ads cause the game to crash, prematurely ending “perfect storm”. 2. Not one item that I purchased with earned in game currency saved. In other words, I spent hours grinding until I could afford upgrades. When I finally spent on the upgrades, they were unavailable for use in my inventory. This is fully unacceptable, considering that people have the option to spend real money for credits to buy these things(Thankful I didn’t). I just can’t understand why a developer would put all that time forth programming excellent gameplay, and then do an obvious rush job while coding the store and ads. Do you not like money? That is how you drive people away from spending on your product. In fact, I was so offended that I wasted my time earning nothing that I promptly deleted the app.

Travel update is destroying an amazing app

Your iOS surfing game is quite literally the most fun and responsive surfing game I’ve played. I love it. However, your recent update changing how I can travel to various spots limits that ability which also has had the effect of limiting how frequently I play. Perhaps this is potentially a way to get me to buy tokens or whatnot to monetize the experience. However, what I would offer is that for this user, it is costing you your repeat engagement. I travel constantly for work, and play this on my weekly flights, waiting at airport or countless other bite size chunks of time as a way to unwind etc. I do very much love the game... and hope that this recent change isn’t permanent. It takes away from the game. I had played long enough to have scaled to a level 18... I used my points won to play constantly at my favorite waves... now I am running low on travel points and not playing because I can’t jump to the places as easily / frequently as I did previously. It’s a bummer...

    Please fix

This game, when it’s working, is hands down the best Surfing game on IOS. The live conditions and physics are amazing and accurate for the most part. I have no issue with player progression and cost of In-app-purchases seems fair. This is the only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. My issue is solely with the ads. Not the ads themselves, but the timing and inability to resume playing make this game very frustrating. When surfing during conditions as they normally are, I may see an ad every 10-15 waves. I am fully aware of how the logistics of how ad revenue works, however, when activating perfect storm I get one or two waves before having to watch an ad. I would happily watch this ad or skip it (I have done both) but when returning to the game it becomes unresponsive and my only option is to hard close the app, losing my perfect storm and wasting the power up. I have stopped purchasing power ups for this reason. If fixed, I would happily give five stars
